So, that was one of three babies. She had the other 2 under the grate after I opened the grill.
I gave her 24 hours to get settled in and comfy, then the next day, I scooped them into a pizza box and took them far far away.

What a good mom mouse she was, she never even tried to flee and leave her babies.
But where I dropped them off, I put a piece of pizza in with them for them to chow down on and I also sheltered them with a metal bowl with small holes in it. Just big enough for them to get in and out of but will hopefully keep the hawks out.
A snake could get in but I'm hoping the pizza smell kinda deters it.
I feel bad that I had to relocate them, but I am optimistic thet they are healthy.

I am not...lol...BUT when it comes down to me or a snake...hmmm...I WIN

See, I don't see it as between me or them unless one actually were to attack me, and that has never happened...
I'd kill anything that came at me, assuming it was rabid...or just stupid.
But just seeing it, doesn't make me wanna kill it.
Yeah, for a second I felt bad about the litter thing. But it's a house for the mouse so I'll take it up with the sherriff if I have to.

Found the other pic from my zoo...

Oh and I didn't leave the pizza box! Just the metal thingy. IT was actually the ash catcher from my old charcoal grill.

Half of my backyard is part of a Reserve, so killing anything back there is illegal. This neighborhood pushed those critters back a little further into the woods, they are bound to come back here every now and again.
Truth be told, if I had any fears or heebie jeebies about them, I would not have moved here.
They are "interesting" to me. And most are critters I didn't see in NC. I've never even seen a hawk close up, let alone 3 feet from my back door!

Yeah it's amazing isn't it....In New York you saw more deer then here, but never in your backyard....BUT in Oklahoma you can hunt just about anywhere...scared me when I first came here....I wouldn't let the kids out in November...LOL...But when people caught on that we lived back here (in the woods) they respected that and stayed away, or at least a safe distance

awww The babies were cute. Hope they have fun in the fields and out of the hawks site.
I even like your snake. Though those little mice better hide from it too
