since there is only a small number of us in this part of the hobby right now how about telling something about yourself that way maybe we can feel we know each other..
i am a stay home dad with a 5 and 2 year old, i also have a 19 year old son at the university of Cincinnati and a 17 year old daughter, the younger ones are also boys.
i work in tv for almost 20 years as a videographer I'm 45 years old, ouch, i have the seahorse tank and a 90 gallon reef tank its about 5 years old. i had the same, expensive, growing pains with it that i have had with the horse tank.
i also have 3 cats, a cornish rex, a devon rex, and a russian blue.
thats the long an short of it...

i'm 15, i have a 55g seahorse tank, as most of you know. i have miniature donkeys, cats, dogs, tons of fish (freshwater too), a bearded dragon, a russian tortoise, a parakeet, horses, more fish, and i think thats about it.
i've also had a crawdad wich i've had since he was litterally right out of his larvae stage it seemed like, he was just a speck that i accidently got wiht some plants out of a pond. after over a year i have this same crawdad in a 10 gallon 'pond' like tank with three bass minnows that are like 2 years old (they never grew). he is like 3 or so inches or more now, he is gettin big, so if i ever mention 'my crawdad' thats who i mean.
i have a small business wich i renamed over the winter Blue Econ (as in blue ecnomy, blue is for water, i thought it was a good name). i'm making a new website atm but basically i breed and sell freshwater critters like clams, snails, ghost shrimp, crawdads, and other things i can breed or find legally.
i've got IBS and major sinus problems so i do a online school, wich is why i am on here 24/7 (no life).
thats pretty much all i'm gonna say.

Also 15,(10th grade) have a 55 gallon LPS reef with a PJ cardinal, clown, and solar fairy wrasse. Just setup a ten gallon SH tank.(will get 29 once i get horses that do well) i have a shih-tzu(sp?) named max who hates me and ate a box of chocolate the other day.
I have 2 younger sisters.(why me?) I used to play high school football but the coach's take it way to seriously so i didn't play this year. I was literally pulled outa class and chewed out like a marine in the hall because i skipped a weight lifting session during the off season. Anyway most of my friends kept playing and are now jacked football zombies who don't give a dam whether i live or die as long as they win the next game. I get good grades, (not quite straight A's) I got into this hobby because my cousin bought a goldfish way back when and i thought it was cool. Went through standard progression. (goldfish, betta, tropicals, chiclids, FOWLR, reef, and now SW specimen) Don't yell at me here but i love fishing, and eating seafood.
I hate upstate NY and will move to Florida asap. hope to be a marine biologist. Dream car: 1974 yellow stingray corvette.

You live in S. FL did you lose power today? One of my worst fears was losing power and my reef in one of our frequent power outages.(actually theres a storm here tonight.) But a generator a while ago though.

I am 20, i just got married about 2 months ago. I live in houston tx and have 2 tanks now. I am a sophmore at university of houston, and am changing my degree plan from accounting to manine biology also, i am absolutely fascinated with the ocean, and when i went diving in cayman islands on the reef there for my honeymoon 2 months ago , it definitely let me know how much i would enjoy researching fish and coral.
I am very very close to my family, i have had my brother and cousins over for the night a couple times this month.
My hobbies besides fish are cooking( i adore the food network) and Call Of Duty 4!!!! I love that game, i am definitely addicted..

Nick never uses this account, but since we are "Kanicky" (Katie & Nick) I'll introduce both of us!

I am 21 years old. I work full-time as an Office Manager for CSD, a relay call center for the deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech impaired. I also go to college part-time and am majoring in English. Writing is my number one passion, with being a saltwater aquarist following closely behind
I am a CODA (Child Of Deaf Adults) and Sign Language was/is my first language.
Nick is 22 years old (23 in March!) and he is an Estimator/Construction Supervisor for a local construction company. He also does internet programming on the side, and he really enjoys working with computers. We have started a side business in the form of a local crime-awareness newspaper and we enjoy helping our community.
We are living in our first house with our two precious kitties, Max and Moxie, and we have three saltwater tanks: a 45G Reef, 30G Seahorse and a 12G Mantis. We are already planning our new tanks for the next house!

I am a middle aged woman who got her fist fish tank in the 70's! Guppies. I went into marine fish within the first year or two and have seen the hobby change back and forth a few times. Now, I have 3 75 gallon tanks all plumbed together. One reef, one with butterflies and angels, one planted with algae and seahorses. Plus, a few nursery tanks and a room full of cultures of tiny food. At this point in the hobby, I love the breeding aspect. I want to give back to a hobby that has given me so much enjoyment.
Personally, I work in a large inner city hospital in Salt Lake City, as a critical care nurse. I have one son who has "graduated" from the Air Force, and a daughter in nursing school. My husband prefers light weight water, and has a 3000 gallon tank ( a pond!) in our backyard. He has the work, I get to sit and feed the fish who kiss my fingers and toes!
We also have a yellow crown amazon parrot who talks incessently and preens me, and two cocker spaniels who can't keep their tongues to themselves!

I am a little bit over middle age. A whopping 56 years this month. A divorced mom, I have a bunch of children and a couple of grandkids. I am an oncology/bone marrow transplant nurse at a hospital in Salt Lake City.
I have 5 cats and 1 border collie.
My experience with tank life is:
30 gal freshwater tank with a Koi angel fish, clown loach, and a couple of plecostomos going on 8 years now.
32 gal Red Sea Max with a pair of black saddleback clowns, pair of yellow watchman gobies, yellowtail blue damsel, Midas blennie, a MIA pajama cardinal and multiple crabs, snails, clam and corals. About 1 - 1 1/2 years on this. I forget just how long. But my pocketbook groans everytime I go near it.
30 gal sea horse with four horses, 2 large erectus ladies, 1 med erectus male, 1 med Reidi male. I just had my tigertail die last night. He got caught in the protein skimmer intake "protector" for 2 days before I found him and didn't recover from the lack of food. Multiple snails, pair of yellow watchman gobies, firefish goby, hermit crabs, and soft corals. 7 months on this tank.
Outside 800 gal pond with multiple koi and goldfish and algae. 8 years on this one also.

I'm so sorry to hear this.
My female h. kuda got her head stuck in the pre-filter slits one day while we were at work and when we came home she was gone. Horrible feeling.

Hi everyone. What a great idea to get to know each other a little. You know, we all get an impression of the personality behind the posts....interesting to see how right (or wrong) we were!!!
Comments first:
How do all you young kids afford this hobby? Zeke92, with all those pets I thought you might be a spoiled only child!!
KIDDING!!!!! Sorry, by the way, about the health issues. Honestly, I did wonder how you found the time to 'live' online!!!
Larrynews: coolio cats!!! Thanks for starting this thread, by the way.
TeresaQ: BEAUTIFUL family!!! Enjoy
Also interesting those of you who are in challenging health care positions.
Now, finally, a small note about me.
I am a mother of 3; ages 18(in a few days), 16 and 12. (you can guess I'm not 20) Two boys and a girl, in that order. I work part-time as a housekeeper (hard work; great money--but not great enough) part time as a podiatrists assistant, and part time helping my husband manage our appliance repair business. (anyone in the Detroit metro area have broken appliances?
)
I've also just gone back to school to eventually become a surgical tech. (another exam on Tues--Ugh!!)

We have one rabbit (netherland dwarf) named Festus Lonestar, one goldfish (goldie) and two Keeshonden; Bandit (almost 3)and Dodger (almost 1).
I am totally in love with dwarf seahorses, and although I'm totally inexperienced, I'm looking forward to taking the plunge (pardon the pun) later this year. Meanwhile, I'm here soaking up(groan, another pun) valuable info.
So, nice to 'meet' everyone!!!
Now, I'm going to sleep--major dog show to visit tomorrow!!

"How do all you young kids afford this hobby?"
Slave labor at the apple farm down the road from 7am to 5pm every Sat. and Sun. (during fall) and also during the week in summer. Which is why i'm low on $$ during winter. My parents helped me buy equipment but i buy all livestock.

well my dad owns a business, not gonna name it cause people near indianapolis or southern indiana may know it.
and most of those aren't mine. the only ones that are mine are:
fish
crawdad (love him)
bearded dragon (birthday one year after begging)
russian tortoise (birthday one year after begging)
parakeet (birthday one year after begging)
more fish
thats all thats mine. the horses and donkeys and stuff are my moms. and the dogs and stuff is pretty much a 'family' ownership. but a couple were mostly my sister begging for them and then not caring for them (surprise surprise).
and btw, the internet IS my life. since i live 30 minutes from all my friends there isn't much to do besides my hobby, and the internet.
