what are the requirements for this coral? Anywhere i have looked they don't talk about requirements. Reason i am wondering is i found a place where they aren't rediculously overpriced.

so they do need intense light. Thats what i was confused about because while trying to find info i read a couple times they could tolerate a range of lighting conditions. maybe they were talking about another Acan variety. hmm maybe i'll keep looking for something similar instead of an Acan.

t5 are just fine halides are not required and also feedinging isn't required but helps them grow quicker

hmm it'll be a while before i can afford stronger lights so i'm gonna count this one out.

I am not questioning your unbelieveable knowlegs of salt water aquariums, but if they need intense light then how can they be kept in nano tanks?

Here is what i am wondering though, if a nano is shallower than other tanks wouldn't PCs still be more intense than they would on another tank? Intensity has to do with how far the light penetrates and how strong it is at whatever depth. am i wrong? not saying i have intense enough light for sps or anything but this is where lighting is such a pain is the but and why w/gallon is usless. b/c i have ~5w/g but doesn't mean i can keep any coral.

your question should be then why can't they because as i was saying less lights over a nano could still be intense considering depth of tank.

if you look how they spread for people with mh or good t5s (mid to lower in the tank but in direct light) you can see what makes them thrive not just survive

right i'm not saying mh or T5 aren't more intense what i'm saying is that depth of the tank still has a big effect on intensity. Not even trying to start an argument here about lights i'm saying there are certain corals it seems that will thrive under PCs at the top of a tank where they may be 6in from the lights but will also thrive at the bottom of a tank under T5 or mh lights. Its corals like that which i worry about my lighting being sufficient enough. It seems that certain corals are borderline when it comes to different types of lights. For example the yellow figi leather i got is more light demanding than other types of leathers which is why it is at the very top of my tank ( i have PC lights incase anyone missed that) but i get mixed reviews when some people say its not enough and others say it should be fine. It is very difficult to know who to believe and who not to but also maybe it worked in one persons tank and not another. Just very difficult for me to decide whether or not to try a certain coral that may or may not live that i like alot because i am on a very tight budget and try to be very selective to get something i really like but like i said i don't want it to die and waste the money which is why i'm counting out the Acan.

while the pcs arent ideal they should keep an ancan alive and in good color it just isnt as likely to spread as fast as it could under more light. just remember to change your pc bulbs every 6-9 months for optimal light output. remember to spot feed the ancans some mysid shrimp weekly will really help they grow

I'm pretty sure PC's are fine if you place them mid to higher in the tank and they are very hardy corals. Definitely one of my favorites.

definitely agree. As long as they are placed middle to high in the tank you shouldnt have any problems.
