I have been doing some reading and have found reference to leaving actinic lights on continuously, 24hrs, has anyone heard this? Benefits, downsides? It said the bulbs last longer, and the blue doesnt disturb fish etc, and it reports benefits to all marine aquaria..
Ref: Baensch Marine Atlas Vol 1
Does anyone do this?

Interesting topic. I hope we can get a good debate out of it.
I don't do it. I've always thought that to do best corals need a break. I've also heard that Zooxanthellae require a night period or they will not reproduce.
I strongly believe that it does affect the fish. The actinic wavelength penetrates further through water than other wavelengths. To some fish, the only daytime they get is a blue glow for a few hours when the Sun is shining.
I would love to learn more. This sounds like a facinating topic.

Hmm sounds interesting to me. I don't think I would try it but will follow this topic.
