So, I currently have 2 powerheads in my tank. Each one sits on opposite ends and they are (I believe the Koralia 1400's). They're placed about midway down each side so the only water movement I have is really from the 1/4 bottom of the tank and up. I'm going to buy a total of 4 extra powerheads but want to know everyone thinks would be the best powerheads to get the job done that I'm trying to do. So here is my scenario:
I don't have ANY water movement on the base of my tank which is why I think I have such a problem with algae hair right now. I also have stuff settling on my rocks and on the sand allowing for some movement on the base of my tank. Not too much to have the sand shift around, but enough to make sure there aren't any deadspots (which I have found that there are plenty). So I wanted to get two powerheads (place one on each side of the tank) but waned to know how much power would you suggest for those? I have a 5' long 125G tank so that'll play some part in picking the proper powerhead.
I also have a bad water movement at the top of my tank and the junk just circulates because of my return pump at the top. I'd like to put a powerhead at the top to allow for proper movement so the junk can reach the O/F and be filtered out by the skimmer.
Lastly, I was sitting around yesterday and thought, man, it would suck if my heater just went out... especially in this climate right now. Would it be highly recommended or would many people advise against putting two heaters in my tank allowing for one to be used as a backup per se?
