Maybe it's just me. I'm getting pretty bloody sick and tired of these ads on SWF. I have a fairly good computer, but every time I step in to SWF's forums I have to wait for EVERY page to load. Watch your info bar when you click a thread one day. Huddler.com, Doubleclick.com, google infomatics, and I'm sure plenty more..... they all have their claws in each SWF page you click, and they all slow up the loading process.
Don't get me wrong. SWF is still my "go to" forum 90% of the time. I love this place, and the people on it. I even understand the need for ads to support the cost that these web pages incur. I just wish there could be FEWER and the ads be more TOPICAL. Even as I type this, I am looking at two ads for California Psychics and two more that have some freaky old woman/young woman drawing that looks more like the mug shot of an alien Grey with a hangover to me. Tell me - how the hell are those pertinent to our hobby? Furthermore, all four of these ads are the kind where you can play a little "game," and the flash coding (I think these are flash based, anyway..) is a further drain on loading time and computer resources.
In a perfect world we wouldn't need them at all. In a moderately perfect world they would be confined to the main menu page, or (one would hope...) at least more relevant to the topics at hand. But for EVERY PAGE.....? Even when I click on a link to respond or create a new topic?? Come one, people. This is getting ridiculous.
