Advice how to clean pumps

Unfortunately for those who know me I stripped my reef down and transformed the tank into a freshwater planted tank. I have four pumps that have been out of the water for a month or two now and I decided to use two of them. Whats the best way to clean all the coraline and junk off knowing that it will go into freshwater afterwards ?

I would soak them in white vinegar.....then scrub them really good

Thanks. Thats what I was thinking but I wasn't sure if there are better tricks.
My tank sat empty for about six weeks because I had back surgery. I have set up the tank and just filled it and began to cycle the water. I found a 40" tall tree that is going to be the center piece. I'm getting ready to order all the plants at one time so I haven't got algea yet !!!
