Advice on live rock order

well, I'm not sure what you expected from fedex ground, you can see what their shipping times are on the website. Even if it did start off cured, spending the 3-5 days out of water will cause die off... thus making it uncured again. If you said the sizes were good and it was packcaged ok, thats what i got. Yeah it was smelly, and yeah there was die off, and yeah there were a few dead worms, but what can you expect from ground shipping? fact is you will have die off no matter what. There is still plenty of beneficial bacteria in the rock and most of the corraline algae will be fine. Mine has been up for about 6 months now and it is starting to look nice. The corraline is spreading and the rocks that i thought looked pretty well dead look just fine.
I'm not ripping on you or flaming you tomlpd and i dont want an arguement, but what you and i both got seems reasonable to me.... especially for the price.

My complaint is with Gary and his false advertising. He advertises 2-3 day delivery without any warnings and what it seems everyone gets is five day. I have emailed him twice and have yet to hear from him regarding this. Hopefully some of my rock will make it and I will take it as a lesson learned and move on.

PoesRaven: IDK if you were asking me, but yes it was still wet and wrapped in wet newspaperin a plastic bag.

Nick, a good scrub down with a wire brush will help tremendously when dealing with that amount of die off. It can be very time consuming and quite laborious, especially if you have alot of LR, but it can cut down the curing time. Ofcourse you wont reach everything while manually scrubbing the rock, but it will still help quite a bit.

I finally got a chance to upload some photos of the live rock tyhat many people have contacted me about. IMO this is what live rock should look like! I received this live rock about 3 weeks ago. The bottom layer is obviously some base rock bought at LFS.
Please check it out!

I would get it from the "Drs.". No "Free Shipping" scams. Just incredible rock at the right price. I got 45 pounds of Drs. Select Fiji Premium Live Rock (80-90% coralline coverage) for $119.99, $191.54 shipped overnight. I actually was lucky enough to have FedEx be late with it, so I got completely free shipping. I paid 119.99 for the rock, and the Drs. took care of EVERYTHING for me. I didnt even have to deal with FedEx.
So in reality, you can get select premium fiji LR shipped OVERNIGHT cheaper there than you can here, even with the "free 2-day shipping" they claim to offer here lol. Gotta love that.
You can also opt for the 45 pounds of Fiji Premium Live Rock (40-60% coralline coverage) for $89.99. $161.54 shipped overnight. If you want 2-day shipping, its $1.29 a pound. And still cheaper than the "free 2-day shipping" here.
Dont fall for the "Free Shipping" marketing schemes!!!

And I would definitely dispute a purchase with this Gary guy......if you paid for 2 or 3 day service and did not get it, then you get your money back. I paid for overnight service, and FedEx ran out of planes in Tennessee, so its their fault, and I got my money back. This Gary guy sounds like a real loon. Thank god for the Drs.!

Well, I can certainly understand how frustrated you all are. After researching and looking everywhere I also ordered from Gary. FREE overnight shipping on orders over 75lbs, so I ordered 75lbs and spoke to Gary and he reassured me that it would be here in 2 days, 2 days came and I checked the tracking and sure enought they sent it ground. It took 7 days to reach me. I was furious!! I called and left messages and emailed him all day. Finally I called him and told him I was going to report fraud on my credit card if he didn't make it right with me. He called me right afterwards!! He sent me 25 more lbs to make it right but it also went ground.

But there is a happy ending here :jumping: I used the rock to cycle with and I did have some pods survive!! Now after having the rock for 3 months I am getting lots of purple corallline algea growing back!! It takes time but hopefully you cure your rock properly and you may still get some life back. I was actually suprised that it came back after that long cold transit.... but its on its way now. I guess the moral of the story is if its too good to be true it usually is. Also you get what you pay for!! Hope all works out for you!!! Also Gary hopefully will get whats coming to him!
