I do have a quick question...a little strayed from the subject, but whatever. I noticed today that there are little buglike things crawling on my tank glass and in the aquarium a bit. Are these copepods? I have researched a lot about aquariums (haven't we all?) and I remember reading about these before. They aren't on my fish and my fish seems well, but these are harmless right?
Yup, probably copepods. Congrats!

Is there any benefit to having them? I know that they are a food source for many animals, but I don't think that they are for clowns, grammas, and angels.

Clowns and grammas will eat them on occasion. They're also a part of a healthy ecosystem and will eat excess food and detritus.

Sweet! At first I was kinda freaked out by it, but now I am glad that they are there. Thanks for your help.

I got the gramma! WOOHOO! Now I just have to drain it the rest of the way...pump back the new water, test it, turn stuff on, acclimate the fish, put them back, and turn everything else on, clean up, and enjoy!

I'm doubting that Alk level at this point. Did you confirm it with another test kit, maybe with your lfs?

No...I just tested the pH at the lfs. I need to figure this out. I use API and so far, I kinda hate it! I know that my alkalinity was high when I was using tap water (switching to ro was so far the best decision that I have made in this hobby) because the tap water's pH was ridiculously high. I am going to try to return the API tests, I will just say that they are defective (not a total lie). I will try sechem or something. I want to get a good quality kit. Anyone want to recommend a kit?

Salifert, Elos, Sera. I'd hold on to the API kits. At the least they might be able to confirm some values for you(i.e. if both kits give the same value).

For PH I keep wishing that I would buy myself a PH meter. They are much more useful than test kits.
For a test kit I like Salifert.
Thanks for the advice, I have researched it and it seems that about 90 percent of the people on this forum LOVE salifert, so I will try them out. I would like a pH meter, but for the price of that, I can get a whole new kit. By the way my fish are great and my gramma isn't even hiding anymore.

I would do as bang suggested if you can and get a PH probe monitor when my tests run out thats the next purchase no guessing and at a glance be able to see what the readings are on it.
glad that everything is working out for you I know this part of the hobby isnt that fun to do LOL
