THis might be a very simple question, it actually may be dumb, Does a tank have to have visible algae for example green, red, brown, etc... or should it be clean

OH no, you misunderstood, I meant like if I wanted to keep the tank glass clear, would it be a good idea or is it better to have the algae on the glass and let it grow,

I only keep my front glass clean. Sides and back i leave so my snails have a constant food supply.

It's probably healthier for the tank to let the algae grow on the glass but it's not an attractive thing to look at. You'll want to scrape it off.
