Why cant I keep algae out of my tank i have had it going for 6months all my level are good fish are fine do water changes every 2 weeks but get green and red algae what im idoing wrong
What type of water do you use for your water changes? How much do you feed?
What size tank, what's in the tank? What type of lighting, and how long are they on for?
Most new tanks will go through a algae cycle but yours isnt really "new" it could be a number of things, high nitates, phosphates, over feeding, too much light. do you have a cuc? tank size? stock list? type of filter?
that naso is gonna get real big, but i would start using ro water and add some turb snails maybe leave the lights off for a couple days i heard that works but it sounds like your bio load might be to big.
if its hard and smooth its coraline and you want that but if its "mossy" that might be hair algea or maybe cyano if its red but either or you dont want. can you post pics?
your bio load is the number of fish or inverts in your tank. light bio load= coulpe of fish, heavy bioload= overcrowded or too many fish and that naso is gonna out grow your tank fairly quick
Alot of people say crushed coral causes problems but some swear by it. as for the live rock its a natural filter and good at denitrafication but i wouldn't say it would correct the problem all together, i have 300lbs+ of live rock and still get some nuicense algea's but no matter waht you do there will always be some kind of algea in your system whether its coraline or nucense algea's. most fish need algea to thrive like tangs some algae make up a large part of there diet. i would recomend at least puting some live rock in there though
