how long do you have to keep the lights off for hair alge to die off i have alot on my lr and want to get rid of it.:notsure:

i dont think it will just die off.. if so.. it would probaly take a long time...
do you have a cleanup crew to eat the algea
?

i have three emerald crabs 6 hermit crabs 6 snails assorted and 1 peppermint shrimp no fish had a clown but died of a disease and 1 firefish guppie and it died to dont know why just did.so i want to get rid of the alge before i get any more fish when my emeralds eat it the water gets all funky.i thought that alge needed light to live.

yes i was doing a water change every two weeks one 10% and one 25%.now i just started doing them every week but one more thing how much water flow is to much for a 12g nano cube it came with its on built in ph but maybe i need another one.

i've been told that enough cirulation to have food stay at the surface for awhile and not sink straight to the bottom...
where is the algea?
on rocks. sand. glass.
maybe get more snails..
maybe someone else can give you more specific answer

yes its on my lr the tank has been up for about 2mths i get some on my glass but i just clean it with a toothbrush i have cc not sand will be going over to ls when this site gets back up.i would love to get rid of this alge but dont know how the emerald crabs are cleaning it but they are slow and want touch the top of my biggest rock.please anyone help me out.

and that will not hurt my lr i heard some people said not to do that but have you done that with your lr and if so did it hurt them. :notsure:

what are you gonna hurt.. your rock is already covered in algea :p
as for living things on your rock.. if you think it will grow and prosper(sp) in your tank dont scrub it .... scrub around it :p

no it gets no sunlight at all when i 1st set up the tank i left the light on to long.as for scrubing the rock there was another member on here who done that and alot of people said that was a bad thing and i dont want to dismantle my tank my clean up crew is cleaning them just slow at it.is there a any other way to get rid of the alge.

Get a phosphate test kit and test your water, usually when you get hair algea outbreaks its because of high phosphate levels. If you have phosphates then try useing ro/di water if you don't already. If you do use ro/di water then get some kind of phosphate sponge from the lfs.
