Alkalinity Issue

I've got a new 29G. It's been up and cycling since just before Christmas.
Levels
Ph 8.0 - 8.2
nitrates 0.0
nitrites 0.0
Ammonia 0.0 -0.2
I've got 25lbs of LR 40lbs sand, 7 fish and cleaning crew.
My Question is... why can't I get my Alkalinity down?
I have three powerheads moving the water at a good clip but when measured the level is 7.
thats twice what it should be

Please help

according to the test kit i'm using (Instant Ocean quick test) the level for ALK should be between 3.5 - 4.5 mEq/l for a reef tank. Is there a better kit out there to check this?

I would shell a little dough for the Elos one or the Salifert. Your dKH should be between 7-11 which would dictate your alkalinity. The Elos test kit for dKH is about $25, but you do get an expiration date with it so that you know how long it is good for. It is very accurate also.

Alkalinity doesn't magically appear so you just need to find the source to mitigate.
Are you using tap water?
Have you tested the saltwater after you make it? Sometimes batchs of salt are inconsistent.
Are you dosing any chemicals?
Side note - there are a few units of measure for Alkalinity so it helps if you add that piece of information when posting levels. ie. 7Meq/L

Thanks for all the info
I'm using drops and yes I'm using tap water both for changes and top off. The only dosing I'm doing right now is conditioner. I will see if I can get Elos at my LFS
