One more thing, there is an official thread in the aquarium section for the club, as well as a complete set of forums just for us on another website... Indydirk, I apologize i keep losing the link, please post it in the other thread that we have so it is easily accessible to all of us if swf will let you.

 Don't know if it's allowed or not, don't want to take the chance. I respect the SWF board and the members on here. If you want the address of the other board send me an e-mail and I'll get it to you (this goes for all who are interested - not just IRC members).

Oh, by the way .... email address is mayhew.d@sbcglobal.net ... thanks

Perhaps that's part of the problem with Indmas, is that we have members but they don't do much with it. Indmas has meetings once a month but we seem to have low turnout. I'm not really sure why. We try to keep our meetings informative and we offer good information, but unfortunately we can't give something away for free at every meeting.
I think it's great that you are all starting another fish club here in Indiana. If you find what works and keeps members interested please let us know.
What are your thoughts superfan

BTUCK... I think the answer you are looking for should be found with in your members. You can promote an appreciation and a pasion for the hobby we are in with out giving things away. I beleive that for a club to work in the sense of a club that it has to be put together by the members, kept up by the members, and utilized by its members. If you sign up for a club but never go to the meetings or only go to a few you have not shown a passion for waht you are doing, and you should not expect it to last very long. My hope for my members is that they can continue the legacy that we have started in the hobby, and pass it on to future generations to enjoy. Education and a little fun are the most important parts of this hobby. Our club can provide both in a positive setting.

lolol, well btuck...i don't really think anyone expects to get free stuff from any meeting, and if they do, they should reconsider because this is obviously is not a grab bag type deal...i've tried to get involved and did for a while, but had trouble getting interested, one because everyone i wanted to trade with further away then what it was worth...the boards were not very active, and so it was hard to get involved more with the club...but thats just my opinion, maybe now that i live in indy it'll come up more, ya never know....with this new club, i already know some of the people, which makes it easier to join in, and be more a part of it, plus it was started on a board i chat frequently on, so i know i'll get responses here when i ask questions....beats me ya big jerk, why don't you come clean our tanks again, president. haha

:notsure: Just to add my two cents worth (and that's about all it's worth) is that I am not joining the club to get "freebies". If that was the case I'd go with my wife to her friends "Home Interiors" parties (heck she goes at least once a month). I am in it for the information and knowledge that others can give to me, I have had a saltwater setup in the past (about 6 years) took it down, and after about 2 years decided to get back into the hobby (current setup about 1 year) and in no means do I know alot about it. But surrounding myself with others who have or are going through the same thing, maybe I won't make the same mistakes. There is an old saying "Knowledge is power", so the more knowledge that I can obtain from the other members, the more power I will have to make the right choices.
Now, off my soapbox, Happy New Year to all and can't wait for the 1st meeting of the "I.R.C."

I guess I just don't understand why you would want to start a new local club when there already is one dedicated to helping local reefers and spreading knowledge about the hobby.
Is there something that you don't like about the current club? I'm not trying to get into an argument here so please don't think that I am. I am just curious why you don't support a club that is already in place.

I never knew that there was a reefer club in Indy (not that I looked into it). I have to say that I'm excited about the fact that this club is excited about trading frags and talking reef tanks. I like hanging out with people that have the same interests.

I guess I don't understand why you guys want to start another club when there is already an Indiana club.
If your complaint about the existing one is that members don't participate enough, why don't you just get involved, participate, and encourage others to do the same? Also, what do you plan on doing differently to get people to participate in your club?
Just seems like it would make more sense to take advantage of what is already here and make improvements on it. I participate on the www.indmas.org forums and think the people there are very nice. I have also gone to some of the monthly meetings, the people who go to the meetings are actually very involved in it and I think that is what it is mostly about... getting together once a month to hang out with fellow aquarists.

Not trying to step on anyones toes, not trying to start any type of inter club conflicts, this was just an idea thought up by a bunch of us who would like to start something new and fresh for ourselves. I have heard many things about your club, most of them good. Your membership participation is one thing that bothers all of us I am sure. Perhaps both clubs could get together some time for some interclub competition. Perhaps an aquatic jeapordy or something. Just a thought, as for starting another club, its for the fresh new feeling it gives us, something that we can all feel like we will be a part of from the start.

this is not meant to be against INDMAS in any ways...its great to have these clubs, whether or not it be alltogether or not...this "club" going on here is not technically an official club like indmas, having sponsors, etc(i'm not making any less of the group here on swf either so you are aware, still a club, just without the sponsors, etc as of yet)....it is a group of people from swf that want to just get together..calling it a club and having the get togethers monthly...there should be no problem with this, even if it is seperate from indmas...the people here in swf know each other already, and so its just local reefers plus friends from this site getting together...in time it may be an official club and may not. we're not trying to start something to take away from indmas, and we're not trying to compete...we just want to get together from this site. plain and simple

Premium Aquatics is prob. the best place I've found. Their hours are kinda funny tho ... something like a couple hours on Fri. afternoons and a few hours on Sat. morning. Check out their website for actual hrs, my info isn't the greatest....but that's who I'd recommend.
