hey guys, im new here. i have had my tank set up since christmas. its a 75 gal, with a maxijet 1200, an aquaclear 500(carbon removed), 10 pounds of live rock(planning to get more soon), and 40 pounds of base rock, and 50 pounds of sand, 15 pounds of cc. as far as inhabitants go, i have a brittle star, a hawiian feather duster, 2 scarlet hermits, and 6 turbos, and a candy shrimp, and a yellow tang.
ok, i cycled my tank, and added two damsels, and a percula clown. the damsels did well, but the clown did not do so well, he would always stay in the same spot, then he would breathe heavy, and would not eat till it eventually died. i thought that it was just a bad fish, since the damsels were doing fine, so i went out and bought two more clowns. eventually, they two showed the same problems, and died in the same manner. so i gave up on clowns, i got a yellow tang, and a firefish goby, and returned the damsels, hoping they were the cause of death. everything was fine for a few weeks, then my tang showed all kinds of discoloration, and brown and white spots. as luck would have it, i had to go on vacation about two days later. when i last saw him, he was doing well, swimming around, eating well, showing no signs of stress, same with the firefish. the lady that i had watch my tank, aparently never did. i came home to a dead tang, rotting on the bottom, a huge brown algae problem, then water was about 5 gallons low, and the firefish was now showing the same discoloration as the tang. withing a few days, he would die as well. i thought it was a disease of some sorts, and i waited 3 weeks. i went out and bought a sandsifter goby. within three days, he had died, no signs of disease or stress, he never acted right to begin with though.so, for the last try, i got another yellow tang, and he is the only fish in the tank. meanwhile, i have yet to lose an invert, and the parameters are in desired range, ph 8.2, salinity, 1.024, nitrite 0, am. 0, nitrate 10, temp 79.
why am i loseing fish and not inverts?
thank you, sorry for the long post
