I agree with you mewozer, everyone is always like "What is it?" and I explain that it's just to scrub algae off the glass... and then they ALWAYS want to try it. Now why did your grandkids not touch it again?
Let's just say I STRESSED the fact that NOTHING in my fish room is to be touched!!!!! out of 7 of my grandkids....6 touch nothing....The 1...well he will really try to test you.....I just don't let him in here when he is like that....and NONE of them are allowed in here w/o me

LOL... I see why you don't want little kids touching anything in your fish room. Heck, I don't like anyone besides ME touching anything in my tank w/o my permission first!

Are you going with fish only or mixed reef, if mixed reef loose the bio balls they produce nitrates, ok for fish only if you rinse them once a year.
Not true. Badly maintained bio balls may produce nitrates, but they're not a problem if you maintain them. They are fine if you keep some clean filter floss in front of them and float your balls in the "dirty" water from a water change every now and then. I just try to change the floss if I notice the water flowing over it instead of through it. Once every week or two. I float my balls once every few months. They should look clean at all times. If they start to look nasty then you are doing something wrong.
Some people say to replace the balls with live rock rubble. That's ridiculous in my opinion since LR rubble would be even harder to keep clean then bio balls and have the same problems if not kept clean. LR rubble doesn't magically clean itself.
I'm running a mixed reef with bio balls and have never had a detectable level of nitrates in my water.

will the floss help keep the noise down on the inlet coming from the overflow into the sump?....im really worried my wife is goin to complain(alot) about the noise and i will have to figure out something to keep the noise down to a extreme minamal....also with the bio balls is there a thing as not enough bioballs?....ps how come like NOONE has a complete fish only tank is it way to hard to keep the water levels undercontrol with out the LR?

Not hard at al, but you have to have some way for the fish to hide, and live rock is the most natural looking way. Plus it has the benefit of filtering your water. There are shark tanks with no live rock, or very little...

Though I think in those systems they use a fluidized bed filter to control ammonia and nitrite and very large protein skimmers for waste management.

the way my newest tank is set...not water yet cuz its still in the making lol. It has 3 bulbheads for water in and 2 for the returns... anyway the 3 returns have ball valves i think so i can tune em to silence the overflow.
