I bought new top trim for my 55g, with the center support, from the LFS for $25. They even had a special rubberized caulk to reapply it with.
Really? That may be an idea. How do you put it on and get the old one off?

I used a straight razor to get the old one off. When I put the new one on, I first put the caulking strips on the top edge of the glass and kept one corner of the new trim open. I had to have my wife hold and place one side while I lined up the other. The caulk was SUPER sticky, so it got done with some serious cursing, but it put on pretty straight.

Was your tank bowing? If so how did you work around it?

Hm, I like that idea. The brace is not smooth though, it is bubbled up from where the last owner melted it. I might be able to cut the bubbled part off though and then glue it.
I really don't want to tear the tank down but I don't want to come home to a flooded floor and all of my stock dead either...
I just looked at it and the brace is seperated by about half an inch. That is a big gap. I just took the skimmer off to lessen the weight on the glass. I may drain the tank down some until I figure out what I am going to do here.
I still think that if you have a strip that goes from the back to front under the current one. it would work even if the you cut out the middle (warped) bit and it would not interfere with your tops sliding back and forth. That said, if you can find a new one in time, that would be the best.

Here's what I did. https://forums.saltwaterfish.com/t/355798/i-trimmed-the-center-brace-now-my-tanks-bowing
It worked fine. The tank hasn't bowed any further. I didn't get it perfect, because my tank's a bowfront so it was tough to get it back to it's original shape, but it hasn't moved at all since I fixed it.
It shouldn't be too hard for a rectangle tank though.

Oh, and take out as much water as you possibly can (safely).
Put them in buckets or something w/ a heater. That way there is a lot less outward force on the tank and it'll be easier to push the "bow" back in to mkae it flat again.

I bought some stuff called Waterweld...and it dries like cement
Funny thing is....I had a BRAND NEW $1500 liner installed in my pool....it got a hole
QUICK...What do I do...I used WATERWELD....still holding till the pool people can come replace the liner....
ANYWAY...the whole point was that it is GOOD STUFF

Alright, I am not a handy person at all. Here is what I am thinking. I am going to pick up one of those clasp things and some strips of acrylic and some weldon. I will use the clamp thing to hold the tank, drain some of the water, cut the bubbled part off of the existing brace, glue the strips to the top and bottom of the remaining parts of the brace, and hope to heck that it works. Does that sound like it will work? If not then please tell me. Thank you so much for all of the help!

Sep is indeed a "she" and you will not get rid of me that easily... I haven't fixed it yet but did remove a good portion of the water and took the skimmer off. I have off tomorrow so plan to work on it then...Wish me luck! I will let you all know how it goes.

keep in mind. weld-on is designed for acrylic. it may work on the plastic that holds the tank, but it may not. I would use the marine epoxy as well to make sure. a few small plastic screws from home depot may not be a bad idea either.
