Yes, I have relatives doing this and it just pisses me off. I can somewhat understand their argument, like you said, they are making more drawing unemployment, but if you are able bodied, why add to the strain on the system which makes me pay for it?

Why not? Free riders are why socialism doesn't work. If that is what they are going to do we've might as well break it sooner than later...

On one hand I'm glad they lengthened the unemployment length for those that do need to pay for their homes, but at the same time, people will just put in their couple apps a week and do nothing until it runs out.

I have a moral dilema with that. Do I take the money that I shouldn't be taking? Or do I not take the money?
Yeah, I have been feeling kinda guilty, but then I realized that the Bush/Obama combo is gonna make us fork over half our checks for years to come to pay off all of this debt so I might as well take some while I can. I can't complain about paying for other peoples house if I take it, so...... I want a house.

You should see the stuff here! Its nuts. It sucks for everyone that got hit by the housing crisis, but I'm gonna have a sweet house with nothing down (except Obama's 8K, the only time you will see me praising the stimulus bill)! 120-130, 2-3 yrs old at 4.8% fixed, thats pretty much less than I pay for rent once I knock out the second mort.gage in 5 years....
Right place at the right time, good for you.

If I buy that house and everything goes to hell in a hanky I have the resources to pay it off. I also just looked at a 3 bedroom, 3 bath with a 2 bedroom 1 bath carriage house and 3 car garage. Both were just deluxly remodeled and look like model homes inside. 180 grand and about 3 miles from the wifes work. Decisions decisions.

There's a lot to be said for an honest day's work for an honest day's pay, my friend.
You can't say that about mooching.
You're doing the right thing.

Have you called your State's Unemployment? You may be eligible to collect unemployment for the 10 hours you are missing every week.
This is NOT a handout, it's insurance that you have paid for. It's like getting a check to fix your car after an accident.

Many, infact most...and probably all of us have been where you are. What you are doing is honorable. Keep doing this and someone will notice. My wife recruits people from low paying positions who have a good work ethic. If you continue to work hard and have a good outlook, you will be rewarded in one way or another...even if it's going to bed each night knowing you are not adding to the "mooching" problem.

Our area hasn't been affected nearly as bad as the rest of the country... but wife and I keep making more money each year -- trying to get the house paid off 20 some years early. Have no other debt and say what you want about your credit scores but not having payments makes life pretty stress free. No credit cards open at all and my paycheck goes in my pocket to regular bills and investments (and into my hobby).
