Not really. It will probably read total ammonia which includes detoxified ammonia. There are kits available that only measure free ammonia but I don't know what they are off the top of my head.

I would suggest 50% - 100% water changes instead of the ammonia detox. I assume your QT is small enough to do this easily?

i did a 20% today and i don't think i can wait on treating my clown
i don't want to put him in the QT if its not safe. If i have to I'll do a 100% water change tommarow
thank's for the help

ammo lock stinks never will give an accurate readings on test.my parents have 125 fw setup but she was adding that stuff like crazy,so much she could never get a right reading ammo was of the charts yet water was crystal clear and no odor.i bought her one of those seachem ammo alerts nothing so ammo lock is can be a problem once you get a small spike for what ever reason do water change right away and that alone should put things in check

I have never used ammo lock but the likely active ingredient is sodium hydroxymethanesulfonate and hopefully will be listed on the bottle.
Ammonia test kits that use nessler reagents will give incorrect readings when using this chemical. It is not likely you have one of these kits. I don't think they make them any more.
I would not recommend the use of any ammonia detoxifier in conjunction with medications so unless the the treatment method is hypo you may have a problem.
Seachems ammonia sensor can be used to indicate free ammonia levels only. I have never run across a chemical test kit that reads any thing but total ammonia although they may be out there.
For future reference and if you have a sump; keeping a decent size sponge filter going in it will give you a instant/movable, mature bio filter when spur of the moment hospital tanks have to be set up. Just dont make the mistake of ringing it out in tap water to clean it. AFter a water change ring it out in the change water bucket to clean it.
Good luck.

My home made ones seem to disappear a bit also. The high dollar LFS ones have held up better.

the clown did'nt make it
i cleaned out the qt tank and I'm starting all over
my main tank is going to stay fish free for some time and that will give the qt time to cycle
I don't think the ammona lock did any good any way
