The pheonix bulbs you got are working with the stock ballasts? I read that the stock ballasts wont fire up the more expensive bulbs like pheonix, not 100% sure if that's true or not.
yea there on the stock ballast. They fire up just fine. the colors are beautiful and the bulbs are not under or overdriven. If or when then stock ballasts everr break im just going to replace them with icecap ballasts anyway. i think they just got a bad review because of the old issues they used to get with the old magnetic drive ballasts. the bulbs fire up fine and no complaints, i'll post pics soon for yah

Just to let you know, I've been using Oddessea lights for a while now. My first set, a 216w t-6 setup, has developed a loose wire somewhere towards one of the ballasts recently, so the light diesn't always fire up. I've been hesitant about opening the whole ficture up to see where it might be, but I know this is probably what I'm going to have to do. I've had that fixture since 2007.
My younger cousin also has a 96w t-6 fixture from Odessea. last week one of his ballasts burnt out. There was a popping sound, smoke from one of the vents, etc. I opened his up completely and I don't see any evidence of any major trauma to any of the ballasts, but the ceramic around the leads to the lights is totally brittle and yellow. He's also had this fixture for 2 years. I also own a 260w PC ficture that hasn't given me any problems at all. In his case, at least, I don't think the cost to repair it is worth the investment...a new 130w PC ficture is only 60 bucks.

I was wondering if someone could tell me what name brand ballasts the Odyssea fixtures have in them? I am interested in the 216W 48" 4 bulb T5 HO Pro. fixture. also is the bulbs a standard 48" bulb or do you have to get replacement bulbs from them? thanks

have you replaced the bulbs yet? if so, are they standard size or did you have to buy replacements from odyssea? i've read reviews that say their bulbs are not standard size, and you can't buy replacements from anywhere but from them.

Other bulbs I'm using are pheonix 14000k and the fit fine. I didn't like the odyessa bulb I thought it was too yellow. I don't know where u heard that from but itS certainly not true.

i like the way the phoenix look in the pics. honestly that's what mine look like in person, but when it comes to taking pics the light looks real yellow.

I recently got the brand new 24" model with 250w MH, 4x24w T5 actinic and moonlights and I love it.
The ballast I have looks different. It is black and 2.1a compared to 1.6a and 2.0a on those silver ones. Seems to work great so far. I got it off ---- as aquatraders doesnt even have them yet. I'll probably replace the MH bulb eventually, but the sucker is bright as it is.

bhazard and nemo, welcome to swf! awesome of you to chime in on this.
nemo: these are odyssea light fixtures. they are very affordable but we dont post links on this site out of respect to swf dot com. just google 'odyssea lights' and the aqua site will pop up. actually, if you just look at bhazards post you can see where i got mine.

Awesome pictures! I love the look! Your ballasts look like they are the same kind I have. When its time to change bulbs, I'll try a Phoenix bulb. :)
