Anemone for 24g

Im looking for a centerpiece for my tank. Everything is grown in, and because its a 24, its quite tight in there. Is there any anemone that wont potentially move around? Ive got a 150 watt MH over the tank so I know lighting wont be an issue really. What would you all recommend?

A BTA would probably be the best bet, but I wouldn't add one to such a small tank. Remember that anemones are mobile and will sting anything that gets in their way, and in a small tank they don't have far to go before that happens.

Yea thats my hesitation to getting one. I wanted to have it hopefully attach under the cave in my tank and reach out, and theoretically speaking, thatd be ideal conditions for it. Yet Im sure its based on the individual anemone whether or not it would move. Are there any anemones that are known for being on the small side? You mentioned the BTA, would that be one of the only ones I could go with if I chose to get an anemone?

I would recommend a hobbiest propogated Rose BTA. It hardy, it's pretty, and it's not taken from the ocean.

Just remember that anemones will move - usually to the exact spot you don't want them in. Also, BTAs can get very very large - I had one that was super tiny that was given to me in hope I could "bring it back to life". I went from being the size of a thumb to the size of a dinner plate in roughly six months. A year later, "it" has become eight very beautiful RBTAs and everyone of them have avoided the one spot where I really, really would like a BTA!

Thats really cool. Im concerned that there is not enough space in my tank. Ill post a picture of it tomorrow because I need fresh shots anyway. No matter how I figure, I see its tentacles colliding with other corals.
My original idea was to buy a centerpiece for the tank. The sides have been filled with rics and zoos and my prized monti cap frag (theres nothing special about it, except its my first SPS and its doing good
), but Ive left the center open for something really nice. I bought a 4" crocea clam that Ive had for a few months now and its doing good, but he likes being off to the side. Off to do research hah.

Do pinktips and hatians grow big enough to outgrow a 24g aquapod? Do they move like BTAs?
Yes... And I agree with the above, my 29biocube is too small for my RBTA (hobbiest Propogated
) I have a 36 gal bow front that will be its new home with limited corals and nothing for it to compete with. And this is prob still on the small side but doable.
Possibly a mini carpet anemone would be my recomendation. Don Lino had a bunch for sale, and a ton of nano tank owners bought some. They look like hairy mushrooms and do not get big at all. They are also some of the best colors I have seen. The issue with the LTAs and condy's is although their base maybe small in diameter their tenticles are very very long and it is almost impossible to keep them from creating issues. JMO.

i have a LTA in my 20g. i will prob take it out when it gets to big but ill post a pic of how my set up looks like. its been staying in the cave a i put it in and only the tentacales stick out. there is one zao coral that the tentacales were touching so i put a 1/2 inch rock and sovled the problem by blocking the tentcles. ill show you im my pic. hth

where the pink zoa's are, i put a small piece of lava rock there so the tentacles dont reach over and sting the zoa.

Yea very nice anemone. They should be safe unless the current changes or the anemone gets bigger. Im still yet to find a camera with any battery life so Ill post my tank hopefully today/soon.

If board members are saying that they have BTAs in nano tanks that have outgrown the tank then I would tend to believe them.

ok??? nobodys saying they wont out grow a nano its just when. depending on how much you feed the nem and the type it is. my LTA will out grow my 20 but when that time comes it goes into my 50g. he can keep a nem in his tank but when its get to big you will have to trade it in for a smaller one etc. as for the water chem. changing drastically...idk, i have a LTA and rock nem in my 20 and i have zero nitrates. prob because i over skimm and filter etc..

why not choose a hard plate coral that looks like an anemonee? It has tentacles and etc..........just wont move around but still will sting close corals

I must have missed the part where the OP stated that they had a bigger tank to move it to next year when it's too big.

Most corals, I could trade to a friend of mines dad, whom has a tank system setup for customers (because he is in the aquarium maintenance business). I dont think an anemone would be something he could take, due to the tanks being shared with many different small frags, and I do not know what kind of lighting he has over them.
The plate coral is a great idea. Ive still yet to find the camera, but I probably will buy a frag of montipora digitata for the side of the tank, and for the centerpiece, I like the bright orange plates alot, maybe one of those. Does anyone know if the plates are a good coral to buy? I remembe reading the long tentacle variety has a high mortality rate, does the short tentacle kind do well?

sorry to sound harsh..but yea THERE ISNO NEM THAT SUITS A NANO TANK (30G AND SMALLER) so if he doenst have a bigger tank paintbaLLER will just have to give the nem away when it gets to big.

the only one that has tentacles that look like an anemone is a LTPC and those dotn do well in our aquriums yet the short tentacle plates do well not sure why this is. also if a clowns decides to host the Plate coral it will most likely end up killing it.
