For what it's worth...I took out my rock and cleaned each piece in saltwater so I didn't kill it. I got a blue spotted kole tang, and a blenny. Cleaning the rock gave them a head start...They keep my algae down to 0 if there is anything green to eat they get it. Hair alge problem solved.

LOL...The problem with pulling it out is, I have 2 KILLER black 3 spot damsels....they try to eat me whenever I put my hand in the tank....it is not safe for me to do this

With all those tangs..clean the rock and give them a head start...you already have enough eaters to keep it clear. You have more than 1 tank can you move the coral for a short time?
