Worst case scenario just got worse.... There was just a breaking report, there is a new leak out on the rig remains/pipework.

Here goes the gas prices again. Just in time for summer. Did they rule out terrorists. I think it was an oil executive needing to make sure his profits are up this summer.

I doubt it. The US consumes something like 24% of the world's oil, yet as a nation, produce only 3%, I just heard the statistic was. There is potentially longer-term effects, such as the foreseeable push to re-ban, and rightfully so, off-shore drilling of Florida...

The Chinese are setting up to drill between Cuba and Florida. Not a lot of sense in banning US production. They just need to look at the regulations. I was watching the evil FOX News today and they said most countries requiered a remote shut off valve, BUT NOT THE US. I found that rather amazing. Having that valve would have prevented this whole mess.

This whole think imo has to do with an equipment failure. If it were a blowout, they have all sorts of stuff to prevent it from making it to the platform, if it did make it, it had to be something at sea floor level or below whether it be a sensor, or stuck valves or something. That is why I think they're having soo much trouble capping it. Because closing a well should be relatively simple. Send an ROV down there, turn a few valves closed, and whala. Basically I don't think a remote shutoff valve would have worked.

What I saw said they are trying to place a valve on the pipe to shut it down so it doesn't sound like there is anything on there now. The report said there is a remote valve that can be placed on the bottom that the US doesn't require. We gotta have the oil, we gotta drill for it so hopefully they will learn from this incident and come up with something better to prevent it from happening again.

I don't understand why they can't collect it and refine it instead of burning it. If you can round it up, couldn't you collect it? I don't think it is very "green" to burn it is it.
This doesn't have to have an affect on us oil consumption for the gas companies to jack the price up. If someone spills a gallon of gas filling the lawnmower they raise the prices.

It wasn't online yet, so it isn't going to effect prices much.

They are rounding it up but I believe it is leaking faster than they can collect it. Right now they are losing about 350 grand a day in just lost oil on top of what the clean up is costing them which will be many times that. Glad I don't own BP stock.

I'd assume then the leak is before not after the normal shutoff valves. Hence sticking another valve down there. But that wouldn't make much sense, because those shutoff valves are below the mudline anyway.

Looks like LA could get hit this weekend. Obama addressed the issue this morning and said it would use the military to help if necessary. He better act quick or Kanye will come out and say he doesn't like black people.

Obama is an idiot. They are saying oil could hit shore by Tomorrow night, I'd say if you think the military would be helpful boots should already be on the ground.
I'm sure my kid would be glad to leave Afghanistan to go scoop oil for a week or two
First night in country the had an attack of some sort on the base he was at. Should prepair them for life in New Orlenes.

Sadly that is such a true statement.

lol, that is funny...
But seriously the bs coming out of there, like BP is going to have to foot the bill (as if they weren't already) and we're pressing them use all means avaliable, as if they weren't already, and all that crap. What a load...

No one really knows what the damage will be but here is another dire quote..
"It’s quite possible this will end up being worse than the Valdez in terms of environmental impact since it seems like BP will be unable to cap the spill for months. In terms of total quantity of oil released, it seems this will probably fall short of Exxon Valdez. But because of the habitat, the environmental impact will be worse."

Just got back from some misc. tank parts run and headed to the beach. Didn't really notice anything yet, no odd smells. Today the winds are shifting from northwest'ish, to southerly winds and there are coastal flood warnings in the area. There were already taking on the news about burning the oil affecting air quality here. I think tomorrow will be the tell-tale.
