Yep, They say the shellfish in the area of Mexico that was hit by the Ixtoc spill still have a oily taste. If this wrecks the oyster fishery it is going to leave a mark for generations. Of course I don't eat the nasty things so perhaps oil would be an improvement
b I feel for the guys who make their living from them.

Well so far...it's holding......and what did O'Bama have to say.....LOL....Ithink it was something like....I think I'll wait till tomorrow before I comment

I am praying for it to hold....but you know what, we are still 100,000 gallons LESS in the ocean right now......

Yeah, I am sure it will take a couple days before they know if the well bore is going to contain the pressure.

oh you're right. If I remember right, it passed the pressure test, before the explosion, but failed the negative pressure test... IMO this pressure test is dumb. Why not just pump the oil and hope there aren't any hurricanes between now and when the relief wells are complete...

Yep, and if you let if flow now once they do have to shut it off at least there wouldn't be as much pressure. I think this is dumb.

I CALLED IT> BP want's to keep the cap sealed and the Coast Guard wants to open it up. Once BP opens the valve the government will have proof of the volume leaking and can fine BP accordingly. This should be interesting.

But if they take it off...more oil gets out....

There was a really good program about this on NatGeo today. Covered the whole dissaster from day 1. They say that it's possible that once or if the oil hits the gulf stream that it could be carried as far away as western Europe.

Yeah, I just wonder how they will blame Bush

If they open the valve the oil will be collected on barges on the surface. Someone brought up an interesting point. The cap appears to be holding this time but if they open it up and then have to shut it off again in the event of a storm it might not hold the next time. I personally wouldn't have shut it off the first time and just hoped it held if a storm did come through. Now that it's stopped I am not sure I would mess with it.

I saw something where the coast guard wants BP to open the valve. They say oil is seeping nearby. I assume the pressure is causing the oil to find other places to come out.

From what I"ve heard, the oil seeping nearby is a natural seep...

I heard there is gas escaping....leading them to believe there may be leaks elsewhere

They are all flipping out because there is gas seeping out of the ground. Well the problem is, there has always been gas seeping out of the ground, and lots of oil too. Just in the gulf, they estimate around 5000 barrels of oil daily seeps out of the ground. (now that is kind of the average number but it ranges up and down depending on where you look) Just like the galveston tar balls. Which turned out to be just naturally occurring too.
When you hear about stuff like that, wait a few days, till they get taken to the lab, because like that, the seaturtles, dolphins and well the list goes on, most of that stuff had nothing to do with the oil spill other than it was close by... But it sure made the headlines for a couple days...
