Another dumb question from your's truly

Hello Again All,
Looks like the countdown has started for me finally, I should be starting the set up next week, so my final list is getting is getting shorter. After having read and read and read some more, I think I have developed a brain-block. Do the actual little critters such as worms, itty bitty star fish and the like come from the live sand, or the live rock? Like I said, I know its a dumb question, but I've been reduced to having a very fuzzy brain!

Live rock is immensely full of stuff. There are 3 pieces in my tank...I couldn't believe the weird creature parade that came from it. Little shrimp, bristleworms, (little filter feeding ones with the white crown thing), snails, even a baby starfish.

The greatest diversity of visible animals usually comes from rock. The diversity of microscopic animals usually comes from live sand.

It is amazing how much stuff there is to learn about salt tanks, in order to do it right of course. I have had freshwater fish since age 5....many moons ago, and thought how boring I'll start a saltwater tank...how hard can it be? OMG, I had no idea the difference in the two!!!
As stated live rock is the answer to the diversity of animal life. Quality rock can be loaded with life.
And yes, we all have been fuzzy at one time or another. Just when you think you know it all a fish will get sick with an unknown to you symptom. Or something goes wrong with the tank. I honestly don't know how I did it in the beginning.....didn't know about this site and vast knowledge of the hobby.
Ask all the "dumb" questions that you want. We'll try to help.

I tend to agree with Bang Guy. Live Rock will provide the different "wow, look at that. Where did it come from" animals.
Good live sand however (true live sand, like what you order from this site, not the bagged store stuff) provides a ton of tiny worms, pods, stars, etc.

Thanks everyone. It can be very humbling, I take what I consider to be a vast amount of knowledge with me when I enter the LFS, and Whammo, some guys brings up something new and confusing, or hubby will ask me something that I know I had the answer to like 5 minutes earlier, and BLAM, its gone! I stand their looking like an idiot that hasn't done an ounce of research!
My next question is about heaters. Hubby found one on another site (he isn't as devout to y'all as I am) and it is an all-in-one. It has a probe that goes into the tank (Ithink) that heats and then has a digital; thermometer that mounts outside the tank. Has anyone heard of this type and are they any good?

That sounds right. I was afraid to add any names or information due to the understandable limitations of this site about competitors info. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
