Another fish ordered from here dead

This is the third time i've ordered fish from this site and had it show up dead on arrival. This is really frustrating because of the $25 shipping charge. Yes they offer a discount for the fish but not the shipping. Now If i want the fish i have to pan another $25.

This is really a bad time to order fish....I just had one arrive DOA too....it is a chance we take (and agree to) when ordering online...BUT a bigger chance when ordering in freezing weather
I am sorry you have had troubles....I can honestly say that 95% of what I have received has been excellent...and alive....pretty good considering that Fed express lost a shipment once and I include that in my 5%

Its pretty cold weather. If your fish spend anytime in transit in the back of a semi truck it might as well be a meat locker.
I too dislike the stiff shipping costs. Which is why I have saved up my store credits for big purchases of $100+
But honestly I prefer most livestock from LFS....its always better to pay a little extra and at least see the specimen before you buy.

Ummm....They would have to pack in some serious heat packs to get something to you alive

Hmm.... really? I thought they would re-ship another fish at NO cost. This bothers me actually! I remember them saying they will not ship to cold areas during the winter, which I understand and agree with, but if they ship and it arrives dead, they need to re-ship at their cost! Maybe it was not packaged right, no one knows, so it is unfair to make us pay for reshipping.

ordering fish during the winter is always a risk. did they put any kind of heat pad in the box?

They put 1 heat pack, but it needed many more in my opinion.
Could you imagine how hot it would get in that container with lets say....3 heatpacks at full heating capacity

I think in that case you would have cooked fish

I had a shipment sent by FedEx from here that was dropped off about 8 houses down from me...and left on the doorstep while it was snowing. Luckily my neighbor took the fish in and we both ended up calling FedEx about it...and they wouldn't let me go down to the house to pick it up, they insisted on having a driver go back (another 40 minutes later) and pick the package up to deliver to me. Ironically, the fish were alive even though they weren't delivered until after 2:00 AND the heat packs weren't even activated (I did that after they arrived to see if they worked). I spent a LOT more time than necessary acclimating them just to get them back up to temperature.
I had a shipment of inverts arrive from another site on New Year's Eve that was in a styrofoam lined box (not like the SWF foam boxes) with 3 heat packs that were wrapped in newspaper...everything was alive and the heat packs were still warm.
I agree, though, if we ask for a shipment to be sent to a colder climate during the winter, we are doing so knowing that there is potential for loss...at least SWF gives full credit for anything that arrives dead (not all sites do this).

I ordered some picasso percula clowns direct from a breeder, and they put two heat packs, one on either side of the bag and it was fantastic. but yeah 3 would be too much i rekon.
