I had a shipment sent by FedEx from here that was dropped off about 8 houses down from me...and left on the doorstep while it was snowing. Luckily my neighbor took the fish in and we both ended up calling FedEx about it...and they wouldn't let me go down to the house to pick it up, they insisted on having a driver go back (another 40 minutes later) and pick the package up to deliver to me. Ironically, the fish were alive even though they weren't delivered until after 2:00 AND the heat packs weren't even activated (I did that after they arrived to see if they worked). I spent a LOT more time than necessary acclimating them just to get them back up to temperature.
I had a shipment of inverts arrive from another site on New Year's Eve that was in a styrofoam lined box (not like the SWF foam boxes) with 3 heat packs that were wrapped in newspaper...everything was alive and the heat packs were still warm.
I agree, though, if we ask for a shipment to be sent to a colder climate during the winter, we are doing so knowing that there is potential for loss...at least SWF gives full credit for anything that arrives dead (not all sites do this).
