another what is this?

i have this coral

and i have these little things popping up on a rock nearby

are they the beginings of the coral spreading to new places?
or is it something else? thanks

#1 looks like an encrusting Gorgonian commonly called Brown Star Polyps. The way to tell is that true Star Polyps grow on a rubbery mat, and the Encrusting Gorgonians grow on thin runners.
If it's the Gorgonian be careful with them because they can quickly overrun a tank.
#2 are Vermitid Snails.

Good, the rubbery mat means it's probably real Star Polyps and they are not going to be a problem. If they overgrow an area you can peel back the mat if you want.
I answered about the Snail in the other thread. They are a beneficial part of your diversity. Not a problem. If you don't like them then you can easily pry them off the rock with a plastic knife.

The only real threat vermitids pose is if they grow unchecked. Their hard tubes have been known to clog filter intakes and such, but this would take a while to happen. A few stickin around will be fine.
