I've always thought the minimum time stuff was irrelevant in a reef system. I would say you're ready when you have undetectable phosphates and nitrates from a test-kit like API. high phosphates and high nitrates tend to discolor sps. on other test kits like salifert, I'm sure you will get a reading, but your aim is for undetectable on something like API. Also get your skimmer broken in before you go sps.

Hey guys
I just got back home from my trip which was lots of fun. I do however have a dead cardinal and a huge algae bloom. I took care of my water and got a royal gramma. A coco worm and a clam too

So today I picked up a schweeeet rbta anemone for 25 bucks and a pair of true percs and a leopard wrasse that was eating at my lfs anddd a starfish of some sorts
My clowns already were swimming in and out of the rbta 20 min into acclimating and it already set it's foot in the tank so I think were off to a good start!
The royal gramma and pjs and DAMSEL are all doing fine still haha. An my starfish are cruising all around the tank
I keep meaning to take pics but after Work at the lfs all day and 3 hours of working on my tank I'm pooped. This is probably the worst diary ever due to the lack of pictures but maybe tommorow!

hows my sps looking? i got it a few days ago but i havent tested mg or alk and i dose ions.
why the heck wont my bta bubble!!!!!!????

sps looks fine, what do you think about it? hows your coloration on them, hard to tell in the pics
the algae in the first pic is a type of calcerous macro algae, nothing bad at all. you can snap them of if you dont like them, but i think theyre cool

I think it's ok. I mean it's not the most vibrant thing I've ever seen but it has good polyp extension lol. Also I've noticed that a few of the polyps almost look like there burnt or something. They appear black and not extended. The actual coral itself has a black ring around where the polyp would come out. Any ideas? Have you tried clicking on the pic to enlarge it?

Thanks Nissan lol I didn't even try taking nice pics those were the first shots for all of them so there really not that good haha. I'm working on getting some LEDs in my hood to sothey all reall pop but no luck so far

what led's are you trying to use? theres certainly some out there that will pop your colors. have you also tried changing your bulb to a radium 20k? it already has plenty of pop, much more than a pheonix

nope Im just going to try growing everything out with this bulb untill it gives out and then switching to something better. i get a lot of mixed reviews though. you like the radium 20k? im using 1 powerbrite strip and will be getting another.
ok thanks. the sps is fine though right? fewer black dots today.

i tried ghetto rigging my powerbrites into the hood and it came out nice i think. let me kn ow if you cant enlarge the pics. i took a fts just for comparison between stock and what i have now. dont mind the algae lol.
