I hate to suggest this but it has been a common problem recently, Some LR harvested out of the wild has been harvested from cyanide fishing grounds and has contaminated a few tanks in my local area, having a really harsh effect on corals, not so much on the fish as the levels appear too low to bother the fish quickly. how long has your neighbor had his LR before you got it?

I am using one of the floating tube hydrometers but i will have the water tested tomorrow if i get a chance.
these are fairly reliable devices and will give consistent readings as long as you have it calibrated with a refractometer as sometimes they are not calibrated properly from the store. much better than the swing arm hydrometer if more of a pain in the tucas to use.

The guy said it has been in his system for a few years( the rock)
the fish in the tank are a yellow watchman goby and 2 perc clowns. I have a starfish as well but i havent seen him bothering any corals.... he is in the FTS if any1 can ID him. Always goes around on the rocks and glass, never burys in the sand.
