Any Good Threads on Apastia Control?

Any Good Threads on Apastia Control? :help: :nope:
I just finished cycling my tank with about 150 pounds of live rock. I added lights and a handfull of plants to the fuge. While the tank was cycling, I didn't notice any thing living on the rocks except for a bristle worm. Now this week I notice that there are little apastia anemones on this one piece of fugi
live rock. What really pissed me off is that the tank was mostly filled with Marshall and Tonga branch which started as uncured. This piece is the only piece that I didn't buy online.
Any suggestions on to rid my new tank from apastia?

No particular threads come to mind...but a simple search either here or on-line via google should turn up tons of info.
I've never had a issue with aiptasia myself...but many folks claim peppermints can help with control of small ones and new growth....plus there is always the option of kalkwasser injections.....and Joes Juice is reported to be useful.

Thanks NM Reef for responding. I guess it is kind of fustrating, when you are trying to everything right and before you even start there is a pit-stop.

Two Words.....
JOES JUICE
I have used Pepperming Shrimp...They do work sometimes.
I have used copperbanded butterflies ....They do work sometimes.
I have had 100% success rate with Joes Juice and now swear by it.

I had aptasia growing when I first started a year ago... but after I introduced 4 pep shrimp, it's completely disappeared:D

What causes aptasia to grow. They seemed to survive the whole cycling process. My NH4 and NO2 were really high during the week I was cycling my uncured live rock. How could they survive that.

They survive because they ar ebasically marine weeds! Think of your lawn or garden, no matter what condition it is in, something will always grow...crabgrass, clover etc...Aptasia is an oceanic crabgrass lol

NO2 is harmless to Aiptasia and NH4 can actually feed the zooxanthellae in their tissue to provide the Aiptasia with food.
There is an Ophryotrocha worm that eats Aiptasia.

Where can I find this worm? Will this worm eat any other anemones in the tank?
The apastia is actually on one rock, If I move this rock to the fuge will it effect any of the critters in the fuge or will it find itself back into the main display?
apastia looks like a good candidate to have in the fuge if it consumes NH4.
Maybe thats why my tank cycled so fast.

As far as I know there are only three people in the world in possession of this worm. So far it seems to prefer Aiptasia but has consumed Mojano and Tulip Anemone when Aiptasia were not available. Carpet and Bubble Tip Anemone do not appear to be on the menu. Further testing is required ...

Yes. It could take an hour or it could take a year but eventually clones of the Aiptasia will find their way to the display tank.

See above...

My guess would be the live rock.

My suggestion is to cover the Aiptasia with boiling water, Calcium hydroxide paste(kalk), or both. Repeat until it doesn't come back up for air.

Thanks Bang Guy for the info. How about joes juice?
As far as copperbands go. I'm still cycling the tank. Even though my nh4, no2, no3, are undectable. I'm try to grow my pods and also adding a critter package to my sump. So copperband will not make a good addition right now. I also think copperbands are hard to take care of if you don't have an established tank.

Joe Juice is just as good as Kalk.
Just mix a thick paste out of the kalk using a small amount of water. You can use a turkey baster, syringe, or even just a spoon to place the paste on the Aiptasia. The Aiptasia will eat it and hopefully get a fatal dose.
