Any ideas on this tall yellow thing?

I guess I shouldn't say it's "tall" yet.. It's probably about 1/2" tall, but it is growing FAST. For the life of me, I couldn't get my camera to focus on it tho.. The color is right, but with the blurriness, it's hard to see the "soft""featherlike" "Q-tip" it has.... Any ideas?

Yeppers...Henry nailed it. The common name for this macro is "caterpillar algae". It tends to like a lot of nutrients in the water, and actually generally doesn't do well in pristine reef setups, but i've had it do well in FO setups. It's rather slow-growing, IME, but I keep live macro in my DTs, and it may have been outcompeted for food by the fast-growers. It also requires some Ca to grow, being calcareous (as Henry stated).

So far I have two "stalks". My plan is to let them grow, as I like the look; I'm relying on the fact that they will probably not take over the tank, but am also sure going to keep my eye on them. It would definitely not be fun to have an explosion of those guys.

Yes I think that the conditions I showed in those pictures are not the norm. Certainly is a nice looking addition to the tank though.

I have NEVER seen it growing like that Henry! Ho-lee sheep-dip...

I have had 1-2 pieces pop up, BUT they did not spread or last long I also like the look (probably why they didn't last) LOL

Yes it looks good so Meowzer is probably right wont live. I've been looking for this Padina algae for a long time can't seam to locate it. And if I do find it will probably not grow in my system.
