I have....Actually don't run it anymore though....It's a debatable topic whether to run it on a reef setup or not.

any one use a uv sterilizer in the reef thank??
I have been so very temped many times but everyone on the site insists it kills good critters and is a waste of money. Of all the fancy equipment I have ever purchased, I like the Aquaripure the best. It actually does what it says it will.

I consider it unnecessary unless you have a lot of fish coming and going out of your tanks - like at a live fish store - to cut down on water borne pathogens. UV is also pretty good on koi ponds and other outdoor ponds to keep greenwater away. Other then that, I consider them unnecessary in a reef tank.

To kill good critters it has to be in the water column passing through the UV unit......Not knocking you Flower......You could have the same argument about a skimmer though...pulling out what some people consider "good" for their systems????? Debatable IMO

Oh no, I'm just repeating what I was told...Whoever it was (it's been a while) also said to run it only in the day to avoid killing the good guys.
I have no first hand experience. I was always talked out of getting one.

I agree, a UV does not fix a hair algae problem. There is a source of nitrate and phosphate somewhere in your setup. You need to identify it and adjust it or remove it from your tank.

what about your tanks inhabitants? how much do you feed and how often? and what is your lighting and how many hours a day are they on?
sorry for all the questions but they are necessary in order to find out the cause and also the solution to your problem.

What's your water flow like inside the aquarium? Any pics? The purpose of the hang on the back filters?

i have a halide three bulbs at 150w each it is one 4 hours a day. the tank is new the live rock came from my old 55g. and the fish. yellow tail damsle one. one flame angle. and one clown fish all small... i feed brine and mysis shrimp once a day a little bit at a time for the fish to eat.
the tank is a new set up that is less than 4 months old and i had the same red algae in my 55g. I have two 1600gph koralia pumps at each end. And one Quite one return pump in the 55g sump a 4000. almost 1000gph.
The red algae has killed my truppet coral and is moving big time.. will post some pics real soon. THANK YOU.
