Anybody have experience with Icecap 660?

I have an icecap 660 ballast wired for 4 retro vho's but I'm having trouble with them. The lights will fire up for a second and then cut off, not sure why. Could it be that I only have 2 bulbs in? I am going to order the other 2 bulbs today, hoping to pick them up monday or tuesday, maybe that will help.

The 660 does that to indicate a loose connection. Double check the wiring diagram and if everything looks good pull the wires one by one and reinsert them. You'll eventually find the weak connection. Remember that the wiring for a two bulb configuration is different than for a four bulb configuration.
Also make sure the unused wires are individually capped. The ignitor operates at over 25,000 volts so it can arc more than a foot to an uncapped wire.

The other wires are connected to end caps for other bulbs so is that still a problem?

Yes, if you're running only two bulbs you need to use the the wiring diagram for 2 bulbs. It's completely different than the 4 bulb configuration.

Well I'm getting another 2 bulbs I just want to make sure there isn't a problem with the ballast before I do. So basically until I get the bulbs don't even turn it on?

Right. Or stick some regular fluorescents in it.

Quick question as I'm setting it up...
I have 36" 10,000k flourescents. Is it ok to use those with the 48" vho's?

ok... thouroghly confused now. I have everything wired the right way, I checked all the wiring to make sure they are in there securely, and it still doesn't work. My regular flourescents flash on, then go off and the vho's aren't coming on at all.

Make sure all the bulbs are seated all the way in.
You can also try swapping bulbs around to see if you have a bad bulb.
There's no problem mixing & matching bulbs sizes.

last night my vho's were flashing on and then turning off like the flourescents are doing now so I wouldn't think that the bulbs are bad. I have tried moving the bulbs around and pushing them in as far as i can and no luck. I will keep taking them out and putting them back in to see if that works i guess...

I figured out the problem... the 2 pair of the endcaps I'm using are no good. I know this because I wired it for only 2 bulbs and they came on and stayed on!!

New problem though... the 48" bulbs with endcaps are .5 cm too long for my canopy to close
I'm thinking of 2 solutions:
1. I can sand down the inside of my canopy to make them fit or
2. I can unhinge the top piece of the canopy and have it rest (securely) on the top
What do you think?

yeah the more i think about it the more i see that my second solution will never work... dinner, then sander
