yeah i think they were black velvet. very pretty. they also had some gray ones and some brown ones. they jammed themselves in a plastic igloo and one was hanging out the front! it was so funny.
im pretty sure they are legal because they sell them at several pet stores and i know several people who own them.
yeah i know about the no fleas and parasites things. i thought that was really cool and i will definately mention that.
ill have to find out about my vet, im not sure if they treat chins or not. but there are several vets where i live.
about them living 15 years, i thing thats a really good thing. i had a hamster and was very disappointed when it died after such a short time (a year). ill be 15 next month and i want something that is sure to live for a long time if properly cared for (like my fish and cats lol). also, when i go to college ill be able to take the chin with me because they dont smell, and dont have to be constantly loose around the house. ill definately check that petfinder website
Thanks for all the help

well they aren't a $10 hamster that is for sure. I don't know how well you will do trying to get one for free. They are exotic just like ferrets, sugar gliders, those things are just as much $

I just dont pay that much money for animals. Im not foolish enough to pay 1000 for a yorkie or something.. when someone will end up giving me one.. or two in my case :p I wont pay anything over 20 dollars for a fish.. and I certainly wont pay more than 20 dollars for a rat :p

I have owned a total of four Chinchillas, all related.
Mom and Dad and their two amazing Sons.
If you seriously plan on owning these wonderful animals be prepared for a lifetime commitment.
They have been known to live up to 40 years. 20-40 was what I was told and I spoke with a breeder (who does not breed for pelts!!) who had one out live the 40 mark.
I eventually had to adopt mine out (mom and dad went to one owner and the brothers went to one owner) and made sure that everyone knew the care and the attention that MY chinchillas required.
I had too many commitments and did not want my chins to suffer for it.
Miss them soooooooo much.

sorry to hear you had to adopt out your babies, but it was the right thing if you don't have time for them. They do need lots of love, my Maddie is always waiting at her cage door for some kisses.

$80 is really cheap, but I guess it depends on where you live, I live near Washington DC where everything is $$$$

I had a pair several years ago, they are wonderful little guys. Easy to care for, breed easy.. Cutest little guys when they are born. They are like the size of golf balls, but fluffy. Too cute.
