Good morning everyone, I have a female poly, her name is Mystic Angel. She is pure white, her tail only is black. She has one beautiful blue eye and one green eye. It's like God took all of his leftover parts and stuck them on one cat. Also, my males (4) are alot more loving and affectionate towards eachother than my females (4). All are spayed and nutered.

Question...My vet told me a cat with two different eyes are deaf. Any truth to that? I have my serious doubts, I had a cat with two eyes unalike and she didn't seem at all deaf. He said that was very rare.
Sounds like one very pretty kitty, can you post a picture?

What would eye color have to do with hearing

Makes no sense to me....I'd have to question that too

Untrue about two different colored eyes...but white male cats with blue eyes are deaf in almost all cases.

Also, i think its either huskies, shepard or dalmations that are the exception but most other dogs that have 2 different color eyes are usually deaf. Also, i think its fine to get a heminway cat, though i wouldnt BUY a cat that is specifially bred for a defect. Now on another note, there are a BILLION cats at animal shelters,, jsut sayin'. I do happen to love scottish folds and maine coons

oh, I'm not buying it, its free to good home. If it dosent pan out, I will head to the shelter. All our cats are shelter cats. My friend told me the kitten got hurt, and I want to make sure she took it to the vet and that it is healthy before I decide. I may just go to the shelter since I know they have had vet visits.

I had one that was much beloved. She was perfect, and she came from the shelter. Definitely don't overlook adult cats at the shelter either.

Ummm...get a dog. This way you don't have to worry about a freak of nature trying to kill you.
6-7 toes is just wrong.....if it was evolutionarily advatageous, more species would have this. Obviously thus is more akin to downs syndrone for cats.............

Huskies commonly have one blue eye and one brown. It has no effect on their hearing.

As sep said, working in the animal industry, I can promise, eye colors matching or not, have no affect on hearing. I bet "small triggers" has hairy palms also.....................

I will have to have my daughter get me a picture of her. She is beautiful and her fur feels like a bunny. Her hearing is fine.

All of my cats were either strays or adopted from a cat rescue. We found Mystic curled up on our patio as a kitten in the middle of winter.

I had a white male cat, very blue eyes, who could hear perfectly fine. He died at 17 yrs of feline leukemia.
I also had a six toed cat. Its hard to resist those fat feet.

AH,, a dalmation with blue eyes is supposedly deaf, and a breed like schnauzers with 2 different colored eyes are also deaf (this one i know since i had one) and I SAID i thought most breeds EXLCUDING Huskies, shepard or dalmations. And im a girl,, who works with her hands, so that would be weird if they were hairy,,,, just weird

Hey Beth I had a beautiful white male Siamese cat w/ sapphire blue eyes and he wasn't deaf either.
He may have been a mutant, but he could hear just fine.
His mother rejected him and we had to bottle feed him. He lived to be around 15. All Siamese are born pure white and change later but mom somehow knew this one would not change and rejected him. I was just a girl then…Mother had him fixed so as not to breed a "bad" Siamese but I think she regretted that decision later.

Yep, Pinky had sapphire blue eyes as well. He was actually born to an alley cat, and was the runt. Not faring so well. That's how he got leukemia, I'm sure, from stray mom since I got him when he was a kitten, and he became a housecoat. However, he did live for a long time.
I don't know why blue eyes causes deafness in cats.
