Takia, thanks for the well wishes and tips. We live in upstate NY, and there are an astonishing number of activities, groups, and resources available to homeschool families. Our local YMCA does have group excercise activities for young children, like yours does. Some other good activities for children here include little ones' gymnastics, where kids her age can play and learn gymnastics in groups for a couple hours every week. Kindermusic, where kids of the same age group learn to play instruments and have musical free time. Daisy Scouts for ages 5 and up. There is reading and play at the local library, where kids have a story or puppet show and have some group play as well. A homeschool network here has about 50 families that meet weekly and have different activities for different age groups as well as various field trips. There is a co-operative extension here that has a 4H type program for little kids, and a couple orginizations have weekly group craft activities for children her age. There's alot more depending on what you're looking for, those just suit us pretty well.
You're right that it is a blessing to be able to educate our children at home. My wife has years of teaching experience and was an elementary ed. major in college. I also have teaching experience and took some early ed courses in school (though not nearly as comprehensively as she). In an earlier post I wrote that I didn't want a debate, and mainly it's because I don't want to argue in favor of it. I think it's absolutely wrong for lots of families out there. I also agree with Mimzy in that many people that were homeschooled and have social problems are most likely so because of other reasons. As someone earlier wrote, "to each his own".
