My property taxes AND real estate taxes BOTH have our school district taxes listed very boldly on them.........public, private, home schooled, doesn't matter, we all have to pay them.

After considerable debate, my wife and I decided to homeschool our children (2nd and 4th grade now). Somewhat surprisingly, kindergarten was the hardest by far. There are definite advantages to homeschooling over the public schools, and IMO, it is relatively easy to manage around the disadvantages, especially in those elementary years.
Our decision to homeschool started out as a simple choice to educate our knowledge-hungry 4-year-old who was born in October. She couldn't enter the public schools until the next year, so we decided to try homeschooling. If it worked, great, if not, we'd have a really smart kindergartener. All went well.
The pros and cons for you will depend on you and your family. Things such as motives for homeschooling, the personality of your child(ren), the personality of you and your spouse, and alternative social environments available (YMCA, scouts, social groups, church/synagogue, neighborhood friends, etc.). This has been a good decision for us so far. In our experience, the curriculum you choose is a bigger issue than the social aspects. We learned that a "second grade math book" is not the same across the board. You should definitely research what is best.
At this point, we actually enrolled our kids in what I call a "homeschooler's half-way house". It is a private semi-homeschool, where the kids attend on Monday and Wednesday, but are homeschooled the other days. There is a teacher who sets the curriculum and has the lesson plans, etc. This setup provides the best of both worlds and provides accountability for what the kids are learning.
I hope this helps a bit.

I was home schooled. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, but one word of concern socialization...make sure your children have lots of it outside of the home or you will raise robots!...Its an extremely dangerous thing to watch out for because parents most times forget to enroll there children in sports/cub scouts...etc. And if they do put them in it…it’s only a once a week thing. Make sure there is some sort of interaction with different children everyday. At a young age most children first start forming there “people skills”, it would be a horrible thing to damage them for the reset of there lives psychologically, because you didn’t help develop inter-personal skills. My parents enrolled me in several “extra curricular" activities to make sure I didn't become some weird home schooled kid. (That’s in short by the way)
But on the better side, my education was dramatically better then the Public school system. Which is taught by in my opinion worldly people that are there just for a paycheck With that in mind remember that Public schools teach evolution from day one, wither it be in Math, Science….etc all revolve around evolution which has not been proven, and is just as much a religion as any other denomination...,...my parents used ABEKA books for there home schooling lessons....It used the Bible for one of its primary learning sources as well as other Christian based reading materials. Best it allows your children to work at there own pace...If there fast then they can work fast…If there slow they can go slow…Be careful though because some children do have learning disabilities and that can become a hindrance in there over all learning if they go at there own pace. With most home schooled children I do suggest giving them an IQ test of some sort each year to make sure they are on or above the standard cognitive level for there age group.
Enough said there …any other questions ask away! 

no, because public school teachers are not that well educated. While i was younger they placed me in special class's because they thought i mentally challenged, when in fact they were to lazy to test my IQ. After my parents outrage they placed me in a special learning center, low and be hold to find out I was extremely smart and was bored out of my mind. After a year there I was home schooled and I ended up finishing high school when i was 13 years old with a perfect 4.0. I'm now currently 21 working on my second doctorate. I speak Greek, Hebrew and Latin. While speaking English, I'm currently learning how to speak German. I in no way shape or form have any respect for the public school system, if i would have been left in there system i would be most likely nothing more then a cook at a Burger King.

No they don’t, the majority of them have bachelors degrees, nothing more. A rare few go on to get a higher education. School systems are actually less likely to hire a teacher with a masters or doctorate because they have to pay them so much more,(I know from personal situations, I'm currently searching for a job as a professor at a college, and not one of them can pay me what I'm worth per year. But if i had a basic set of degrees they could pay me the base $40k. When I'm looking for around $80k base) Which sets a fine standard that they can pay a person with a basic degree to basically do the same thing. In an ideal world our teachers would be extremely well educated and would all truly care about there students. To many families now days send there children off to public schools to let there children be raised by complete strangers with a set of guidelines that are extremely worldly, and may not even co-exist with there own moral beliefs.

also note $40k is a great pay for someone who's going to live on a basic budget. I would freak out of I ever got a yearly pay check that low. (Sorry to be rude, but thats not very much money...not for a family to suvive on.)
also note home-schooling is two words. Not one.

Homeschooling is an excellent way of teaching your children. I wholeheartedly support homeschooling, look at the homeschoolers SAT scores and ask the colleges which kids are better rounded and have way higher scores and you will find it is homeschooled children. Schools here in Florida are absolutely horrible and have failing grades! We cant even have Christmas plays now because it may offend the Jewish or other non-Christian religions. My kids have been to both public and homeschool coops and the difference is night and day as far as education. Socialization is important however, public schools often give alot of negative socializing. Why is sitting in a classroom with 30 kids your own age all day everyday considered a normal way of socializing? When you grow up and have a career you are mixed with all ages and types of people. The fighting and pressures and vulgar behavior that your child is subjected to in public schools is insane these days!! I didnt believe it when my teenager complained, after all I had to go through it, well I went to the school, walked the halls and witnessed several disgusting vulgar behavior as well as two girls beating each other bloody! Needless to say I walked out with my daughter and never looked back. If you are blessed with excellent caring schools then great! But I cant see it happening when you take God out of every single thing concerning school. You cant even say the pledge because it says under God.......what kind of crack are they smoking these days to restrict this?? I say go for it like I did! You'll love it :cheer: Carrie

Completely agreed!

Public schools teach the religion of worldlyness and evolution and nothing more.

I'm not going to argue with you. But it makes a valid point to show how uneducated some people can be...Notice how he was so quick to start a fight/debate, as well as name calling.
To answer your question, I’m a College student; I teach 4 of the 7 class's I attend. I make a decent amount of money.
If you want to be put down, i make $65k a year. Not that it really matters.
after this year I already have several companies waiting for me to take job offers...several of them starting pay is well over $100k a year. So please dont talk to me about money.

i wasnt the one mocking a 40,000 dollar a year salary.
my sister did the same thing as you have... teaching the classes she would be in for her proffessor and she is working on her doctorate. Public school is not bad. In my opinion people are just scared to let their children go to public school because of events like columbine.
How can you sit there and say that public school doesnt work...how do people such as bill gates go on to be the wealthiest person in the world with public school education... BECAUSE IT WORKS!
anyone can succeed given the right circumstances... the same is true for failure. If you let your kid fail in public school its because you didnt motivate them enough to look to the future.
I graduated high school with a 3.0 GPA i could have done much better. I slept alot of the time because i was a punk skateboarder... but i still did my lessons like i was supposed to. Sure i would rush through them, but i still finished my work and got them in on time.

My reason for not liking public school is not based on the shootings in schools like columbine, its based on the fact they teach Evolution. Females dress like whores and show there bodies off. Male children are over aggressive and consistantly fight. All sorts of worldly things...Public schools are a last resort. No one should have to attend one unless they have to. Say what you want but score after score on SAT and ACT scores, public schooled children come in FAR behind private and home schooled children. Private and home schooled children are also 90% more likely to attend college and FINISH it.

oh no not fighting... oh no not suggestive dressing... oh no not evolution!!!!
so what your saying is homeschooled kids are a bunch of pussies that cant make up their minds for themselves?
So lets stay on the topic of money. Im curious to know where you student teach at that pays 65k a year. When my sister was teaching for Texas A&M she made far less than that and by far i mean less than 20. I think your full of it. No college is going to pay there student teachers almost 2/3 of what their professors make.

When your the only professor at a college that speaks and writes fluent ancient Greek and Hebrew ...it does. Keep in mind there are only a select few who speak it. On that note i also do research for the college. I teach at the National Baptist Seminary. I'm also working on my SECOND doctorate. I already have a doctorate in Divinity. I'm not a full out student. You should pay attention. Public schools must not taught you how to read properly ;)
Making up your mind on evolution. Its not letting your child make up there mind, Its simply not allowing them to be taught hog wash. You can raise your children the way you want, but my children will not step foot in a public school, they're completely Evil.
By the way you speak and name call and use words you dont sound like you have proper people skills...Did you learn to act like that at school? ...Cause i know you didn't learn to speak like that church?...Do you even attend? If so clean up your verbal skills.

I had some friends that were homeschooled and re-integrated into the public schools in middle school. One of them tested out a grade lower than she thought she was, and as a result was stuck in with the younger kids.
Not only are there alot of social oppurtunites for NY homeschooled kids, it's a requirement. Your kid has to be involved in a club or something that involves socializing with others thier own age. Our church ended up with some homeschoolers who's home church didn't offer youth programs, just to fufill the requirement.
I've not seen anything wrong socially with my homeschooled friends. I was the one that was all repressed because I had to spend 8 hours a day with a bunch of bullies. The public school did give me educational oppurtunites I would not have had at home, and my parents couldn't afford private school. They also saw public school as a back strengthening thing, that I'd learn how to deal with a tough enviroment while I still had support at home, rather than when I went off to collage.

Im agnostic. Three years in catholic school.
I have wonderful people skills...which is why im good at bartending and conversing with people.
So your Saying that teaching evolution in school is basically brainwashing?
When going to church as a little child being force fed jesus and the bible is not?
that makes no sense. Its the same thing. If you give a child two directions they are able to make up their own mind.
Not giving them a choice is more harmful than letting them make a mistake.
People that attend church dont realize these things because they do beleive very deeply that their way IS the only way. Its not. That is why i consider religions to be hipocritical.
congratulaions on working on your second doctorate! your parents must be very proud that they taught such a wonderful nice young man.
I on the other hand killed my parents and drank their blood in the name of my dark lord....
public school told me to.

Your comments now co-inside with your views, you were/are a Catholic.
Catholics are as different from Christians as Jews are. Similar doctrines but completely different beliefs. You work in a bar yet the Bible says, “Be not drunk with wine." (Note wine then had NO alcohol in it) It was non-fermented. But again, you stated you are agnostic meaning you believe it is impossible to know if there is a God or not. Which is understandable, Catholics don’t really preach on salvation, more of works than anything. How your taught is one thing, what you believe is another, how you react is completely another. Your children will accept what they want no matter how you present it, your simply protecting them from the world. Bible states clearly to point your children as arrows. Hence lead them in the correct direction. Sending my child to public school would be a like a hunter shooting a car. LOL
