I've had my RBTA for about 1 yr 2 months now. The key is adequate and strong lighting and stable water quality.

5 years, started with one in the summer of 2000, I've been raising them ever since. Go figure. The Bubble tip anemone has seen many changes to my tank(s). It first started in a 55 gallon with crushed coral and 80 watts of normal lighting. I changed the lighting fairly quickly because it had shrunk down to the size of a golfball. Within a few months of the new 380 watts of VHO it grew and split. I then upgraded tanks to a 90 gallon with the same lighting. I then upgraded lighting again to VHO/MH combo for a total of 940 watts. Used a wet/dry, then changed to a 55 gallon refugium/filtration system. I've even used Ozone and drip kalkwasser.
Just keep the water quality stable and within reef tank specs. Resist the belief that feeding meaty foods is a substitue for lighting. Alwyas go with the best lighting you can afford.

There are only about 12-16 in that pic and a few behind some rocks that you can't see. I have 4 on the other side of the tank and at least one in the middle of the tank.

i take it you like anemones. haha. VERY nice! You have a full tank shot?? How many clowns do you have? And lastly, does the clown just host one of them or does he kinda hang out with all of them??

Two clowns, false percs, they use the whole colony of anemones, they usually lay their eggs right on the wall behind the anemones.
Full tank shot!......Only once have I done that.....Thats enough.

Anyone else find it interesting that only a few of us have had an anemone for more than 1 year. Plenty of views to this thread, but very little response.

Let's see....so far I count...one....wow 2 of us!
Yea, very interesting. Just goes to show anemones should be for the experienced only.

One of my concern on keeping an anemone was the fear that it would constantly roam around the tank and wreck havoc on my reef tank. I believe I have sufficient lighting(mh/pc) to keep an anemone, but I do not want to take chances with my reef tank. Another reason was because I used to have a carpet anemone, I traded him in when I found out he was the one that killed a couple of my fishes(at least I think so). Thomas and Viper, do you find that your anemone would from time to time relocate or do they generally settled down in one place that they like and never leave?

The only time mine move is from over crowding, something I'm going to be forced to do something about someday.
I have leathers, xenias, mushrooms, zoanthids, 2 frogspawns, polyps, candycane, clove polyps, meat coral, monit cap, and such and I have never seen my BTA's bother anything to the point of death. They simply have walked over them, next to them, even parked on them for a day or two and then moved on to where the water was just right and they tend to stay there.
Least thats been my experince so far.

Mine never seemed to have stayed put for more than a month at a time, but that's probably because I'm constantly rearranging my rocks.
My anememones have never killed any corals, and I actually haven't ever seen them sting any either. Even my digitata only reacts slightly to being touched by the anemone.

Good suggestion, I'll look into it. I don't think I've ever seen it in my lfs, I might have to get it from an online retailer. Thanks!

Well, I'll probably jinx it now but here's mine 16 months, has pretty much stayed in the same spot.

I hardly ever visit this forum so I just found this thread. Ive had my anemonies from my first SW tank. 4 1/2 years ago. Now they are in their third tank and still going. The LTA and 1/4 of the original BTA. Ive had these Clowns just as long and they just love the BTA but every now and then they visit the LTA.

Other than the 'rock' anemones, which are really easy to keep for long periods of time; I have had an H. Magnifica in my tank now for almost 2 years. It is host to a pair of ocellaris clowns and measures about 10 inches across the oral disc. It is not the most colorful anemone (light violet base with cream tenticles), but very cool regardless!
I designed my 180 gal reef tank around this anemone - giving it a tall, isolated rock 'pedestal' on which to perch. This pedestal is directly under the metal halide light and gets strong current/surge.
The anemone has never moved/wandered - which is generally a good sign, and has tripled in size in the time in my tank. I feed it silversides weekly.
Other than my school of lyretail anthias, this anemone is the prize of my tank!
