I am sick of TV. I watch, or rather try to watch a show and just as I am settling into it...commercials. I am fed up with it and over the course of the last couple months have found myself watching less and less of it.
So now what?
OK, I went to the library and picked up a book
written by one of my favorite childhood authors-Steven King. It is called Cell and though I have only just started it, I almost feel as though a weight has been lifted from my shoulders, as though I have settled into a comfort zone. Curled on the sofa in front of the tank reading has actually relaxed me. In fact I fell asleep after not more than a dozen pages.
What are your favorite authors and what kind of fiction? How much do you read? I am talking fiction, going off into the land of make-believe. It almost seems there is no time in today's fast paced society to read, but I wonder just how true that is?

I haven't had time to read in a while but when I do, my favorite fiction author is Dean Koontz, by a landslide! I zip through his books and can't wait for another when I go through my reading kicks.

I like reading lots of different things, no particular author. A little bit of everything as long as it takes me to a new world.

I read 3 - 4 books a year. No particular author. I alternate between fiction and history (U.S. Naval - Native American - Adventure/Exploration). Sometimes a book my wife will recommend.
A couple of recent ones I've enjoyed -
The Pillars of the Earth (Ken Follett) - very long but great fiction based in the middle ages.
Charlie Wilson's War - I don't remember the author, but very interesting reading.
It's been a couple of months since I finished my last book and have been putting off starting a new one because once I pick it up, I won't be able to put it down till it's finished.

It's actually Stephen King. What kind of fiction you looking for? I'm a big sci-fi and fantasy fan and can suggest some of those.

I have to admit I'm an avid reader

The first book i read cover to cover was jaws before the movie came out!
If you like crime-drama then James Paterson,Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, Iris Johanson, Alex Kava,Patricia Cornwell, among Others
I you like Non stop action then James Rollings is your man! he will leave you with one blood shot eye at 3 Am going for that one last page.

James Patterson came up a few times so I will look into it.
Anyone ever read a book by Tabitha King called something like 'The girl who loved ?' I think it mgiht have been Stephen King's (and thanks for the correction prime311) daughter-wife, maybe himself who wrote it, a story of a little girl that gets lost in the woods and stalked by a bear?
I will have to look it up. It was a great one I thought and if I can find it would like to read it again.
Just looke dit up online. It was by Stephen King called 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon'.

What are they? I would guess Shinning and either Salem's Lot or The Stand?

Let me suggest four of my all time favorites;
James Herriot - you roll on the floor laughing at the misadventures of this country vet!
Steven Brust - The Adventures of Vlad Taltos (starts with JHEREG), couldn't put it down once I started.
Louis L'Amour - Excellent western author ~ almost all of his books are excellent (and most can be read in about 2 hours max). If you're not into westerns, check out his early historical book The Walking Drum.
Tom Clancy - written several excellent books, including The Hunt For Red October
.
Hope that gives you a few ideas. If you want some more suggestions let me know. I love to read
.

I'm a BIG tom Clancy fan. But he has stuff with his name on it that he didn't write, and YOU CAN TELL. But his stories are awesome, very feasible, or was at the time he wrote them. And so incredibly detailed he puts all other military/political action authors to shame. The only other guy that comes close is Oliver North. But the guy is so accurate on weapons and military that he lectures for the military.
If you like messed up out of your mind books, read Thomas Harris (the Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal ect) Or American Psyco
Another one of my absolute favorite authors is Michael Criton. The Jurrassic Park books blow the movies out of the water. But my all time favorite book is State of Fear and Prey
.
If you like old stuff, check out Victor Hugo, Dostoyevsky, Frost, and Dickens are excellent authors.
Ooo another one of my favorite books is The Art of War
by Sun Tzu. It is awesome.
You can't go wrong with those!
