The fish store Owner I spoke with has very reputable business, and is known by everybody in the hobby here in AZ. Quarantines all his fish for 30 days prior to selling, will not sell you something that he feels may damage your reef. I dont think he would destroy someones tank for a $17.00 purchase. He specifically said it will not hard the entire tank.
I will post what the product is once I get it.
It's also possible your store guy thinks you want a fish only tank and if that's the case he would certainly sell you a product that will indeed poison your tank against anemones or coral, thinking it won't matter to you. You may not realize what you sound like when you talk to him about your tank.
I don't know how many times I hear the folowing scenario.... I told you my problem and you sold me this stuff, now because of your advice I have this problem and the last sentence is OH I thought you meant......
So before you go back to the store be sure make a list so you can tell him EVERYTHING about your tank
and future plans. For example if you want a reef later on, but right now all you have is fish in there, be sure to mention that. He may have asked you if you have any coral and if you said no he will think you don't want to ever have coral. Such mix ups has caused folks to put copper in their tanks for a sick fish, and now can't keep coral at all.
I'm just trying to help. Not long ago a young person put some algae killer in their tank...macos can't grow, the algae eaters and CUC were starving and this person had no idea why. A small misunderstanding is all it takes.
