Anyone watch any movies lately?

Watched 5 we haven't see a thread on...Funny People; 6.5 out of 10. To be honestly, mildly funny people. Adam Sandler played the roll great. I'm actually really impressed with him in this, vs. how terrible "Zohan" was.
. Growing increasing tired of seeing Seth Rogen in everything lately. He's not that terrible acting, but he just seems to have little depth, every movie seems like the same character. It was really cool though, they showed some old clips of Sandler in the film (mostly at the beginning) even before he did SNL, which was awesome to see.
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard
; 8.5 out of 10, easy. Won't get a 9 because the plot is basic and there's nothing new, but it's a really, really funny movie the entire way through. Not just ha ha, but bent over laughing at parts. It's not Hangover funny, but it's up there. Jeremy Piven is awesome as always. Oh yea, don't take/watch this one at home with the kids lol...
The Final Destination
; 6 out of 10. Indistinguishable from the other FD movies, though this one has some huge plot holes in it. It waas fun to try and guess which way they were going to died (like every FD movie), if that sounds right at all
. Felt cheated at the ending. Some of CG and stuff was cheap. For no name actors, they did pretty good.
Gamer
; 7 out of 10, based on concepts and Dexter and the guy from 300's being in it, those guys need more roles. As a giant Halo fan/player, I'd thought I like this film more, but it just didn't connect on that level. It's a good action movie, just lacked that bit of something a classic Schwarzenegger film has. They did really well in this one, the graphics were cool, especially the SUV flying through the air on fire, and the car chase scene was good.
Extract
; 5 out of 10, basic, what I'd call a 'filler movie.' Made to make a couple bux. Nothing really wrong, just nothing new at all. And I dunno why, but it seems like every movie now from Hollywood seems like their trying to ingrain in our minds that if someone cheats on you, it's okay, and you should accept them back. It was a Mike Judge film too, and it was barely funny at parts. I think knowing it's from him, leaves the worst taste in the mouth....
Anyone see something else or any of the 5 above?

The only one I even heard about was Final Destination. Considering I didn't watch the previous three movies of this series (typical B-rated slasher movie), I'll wait for it and the other four you listed to show up on cable (which will probably be in the next couple months, considering the lack of advertising for most of them).

Funny People: Close but no cigar. It was funny at times, but for the most part, I didn't find the death of (Adam Sandler) funny...
Final Destination: It was just like every other FD movie - cheap CG graphics like you said. The ending sucked. The security guard trying to kill himself was the funniest part of the entire movie, IMHO.
Gamer: I liked it, but didn't like it a lot. There was way, way, way too much

[hr]
in the film to gain any recognition. Besides that, the game itself is too gory for even people today to play... It was a little far fetched. I think that (Dexter) did a fairly decent job.

No, Halo (the film) was suppose to be made, but Universal, Fox, and Microsoft could not come to terms on financing. Peter Jackson really wanted to work with the director (Niell Blomkamp), so they made a different film.
For the carpets,
elbow grease...
It really sort of depends what's wrong with the carpets. The big "catch" to carpets is that they will stain, and unfortunately there's just little that can be done. If you have some highlighter red cherry juice that spilled on tan carpets, and it's sat for months, or carried a dirty compressor and there's grease streaks everywhere, well....
By far the best upholstery cleaner I've used is "303 Cleaner & Spot Remover" I only found it once, at a Target, but it's commonly available online. But for a 'whole' carpet cleaning, most of the automotive spray foam cleaners will do. Stick to a quality brand like Meguiar's or Mother's. They will probably have a brush on the can, but it's not what you need, need something like this
Directions;
  • Vacuum the entire carpet thoroughly with a strong Shop-Vac.
  • Spray section of carpet with foam cleaner. With a stiff bristled brush, mildly to aggressively scrub the section of carpet.
  • Let sit for 5 minutes, then mildly rub again with a clean terry cloth towel. Flip the towel, the wipe the area clean (might need more then one towel for section, depending on dirtiness/size of section).
Let the section dry and move to a different one.
If they are any spots left, spray with the 303 cleaner, and with a small brush, toothbrush, scrub the spot, wipe clean with a towel, and let dry.
If the carpets are really bad everywhere, like clay or something spilled, from the get-go I would rent a professional carpet shampooer, a Rug Doctor from Publix/Winn-Dixie/Lowe's. I forget which one of them, but one of the Rug Doctor units has a special hand attachment, and I'd start with that (using their chemicals, they have a special heavy duty spot cleaning type too IIRC), after using a strong Shop-Vac on the carpet first, then last coming back with the 303 if you have any trouble spots.

Anyone see Inglourious Basterds? I was going to include it, but figured it's older.
It wasn't bad, just horribly long, and seemed to really drag in parts. The cool scenes were definitely Tarantino, and you can tell his style throughout the movie, but I think it came to a head when they were playing the card game at the bar, that dragged for what, 30mins easy?

Got two more in....
9
; 6.5 out 10. Tim Burton's new flick. The animation is very stunning. World's are immersive and tons of little details. However, the film falls flat on it's nose because of it's story. Pretty played out. Tries to tell another "Wall-E" story... It seems like they just ripped ideas from other movies and combined them. Nothing unique, nothing close to Nightmare Before Christmas. There are tons of unanswered questions, probably due to the extremely short runtime, barely over 110 minutes IIRC. Still worth a watch, the action scenes are a bit far apart at times, but manageable, It does hold together and at the end, I did get a little lump in my throat, no where near tearing up, but by then you do feel pretty strongly connected to the characters.
Sorority Row
; 6 out of 10. To be honest, I saw this film to 'rev up' to seeing Jennifer's Body this coming weekend. Megan Fox as a vampire, 'nuff said
But this film wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. It will never add anything to the horror genre, virtually the script from I Know What You Did Last Summer, draped over a sorority house. But watchable from start to finish. Subplots are nonexistent, but the humor is funny in a crude and edgy way, which based on my other reviews, seem to enjoy. Any guy would enjoy seeing this one too

Watched Push on PPV the other night. My wife was working late and there was nothing else on. She works for Cablevision so we get PPV movies for free. I was expecting it to be a piece of crap time waster but it was actually a halfway decent movie.

Jennifer's Body
; 7.5 of 10. I'll get to the obviously later, but this movie left me sort of confused. What genre of movie is this? Horror? While there definitely are parts of the movie that are eerie/creepy, I don't think I 'jumped' once during the movie. Perhaps that's what they were going for, but for me, a good horror flick has to have at least one moment that causes your heart to skip a beat. The plot is decently fresh, the film didn't go the way I guessed it would, and the story is palatable. There's also a lot of slap-stick humor in there, not entirely unwelcomed either.
The obvious, Megan Fox. The good news, it's rated-R, the bad news, it's not for nud!ty. Fox didn't have as much screen time as I expected, but I don't consider that a bad thing. Just a fine wine, it's not meant to be enjoyed all the time.

Yes.

Classic Vince Vaughn and I cant wait for that movie.
Dude...I'm gonna be first in line, when this comes out. Classic Vince Vaughn is right...and that stuff is rediculously hilarious. I met him, when I used to work for BMW in Chicago. From the time we broke open the first bottle of Grey Goose and started talking, I was on the verge of peeing my pants, the whole night, laughing so hard.
I just watched Knowing, with Nick Cage...it was horrible. Then, watched The Unborn...pretty decent. Not really scary, but still good. Then, Heather made me rent Crank 2. Within 10 minutes into the movie, I said "you're getting punched, if this movie sucks". Before the movie was half over, it was up to 3 punches. At the end of the movie, I told her she was never allowed to pick another movie...EVER, EVER...then, punched her 5 times, just for good measure.

Crank 2 is just one of those movies that doesn't translate to DVD/watching it at home. You have to be in the theater, 2 or 3 rows from the screen, with their speakers turned way up. If you expect the film to "size up" to other movies, no way. Crank 2 is a terrible almost every conceivable way, except that it's awesome. Check any notions you have at the door, and just go with whatever Crank 2 feeds you.
Nick Cage literally does like one good movie, then a bad. Next, Knowing, Bangkok Dangerous are pretty bad. National Treasure series, Lord of War, Ghost Rider have been decent.

I loved the National Treasure movies...both of them.
Lord of War was fantastic, I thought. Bangkok Dangerous was decent.
Nick Cage has gone downhill, for a while. Ghost Rider was horrible...not on his part...just comic book, coming to movie sucked...unfortunately, he just got cast in it.

Three decent movies this time.Surrogates; 6.5 out of 10. There's nothing exactly new, and it's quite cliché, and that's why the rating might seem low. The acting and graphics are surprisingly top notch, and the action is fun. Bruce is the man, and seeing the obviously bad wig on his Surrie is hilarous. It does raise some interesting points that aren't spoiled in the trailers. I guess in the end, I'm glad I saw this movie. For comparsion, I don't dislike Funny People, it just wouldn't have been a real loss to not see it.
Zombieland
; 8 out of 10. Whoa! Totally blown away, I didn't have high expections going in, but my brother was an manager at Wild Adventures (the theme park they filmed at), so definitely had to see it. It's very funny, and very clever (how they embed the Rules for surviving in Zombieland, in the film). The dialogue is very witting, and you get a 'feel' for the characters/how they think. There is some decent violence, so it was sort of wierd seeing Abigail Breslin (the girl from Little Miss Sunshine) in one of the roles. This has been the first film since The Goods; Live Hard, Sell Hard
, I saw more then once. The film made it's production budget back on opening weekend, so let's hope there's another.
The Informant!
; 8 out of 10. This is a bland movie, that's quite funny. Anyone over 21, whose worked in a company with more then 20 people, should get a kick out of this movie. The 'view' of the film from inside Matt Damon's character's head is odd at first, but you 'get the hang of it,' and soon realize it's a pretty real representation of how we think, jumping around from one thought to another. You don't have to go a long way to support that Matt Damon is a fantastic actor, and it was awesome to see Joel McHale in a movie too (The Soup FTW!!), though it's a shame he character wasn't there much.

Julie and Julia 3 out of 10. If the whole movie was about Julia Child, and didn't have that whiney psychotic woman who wrote the blog, it would have been 8 out of 10. (BTW, had to go see it with the wifey on our vacation...so bite me)
