Anyone with successful reef without a fuge/sump?

I don't have a sump/fuge either. I compensate by using marcos in the display. Some will say that's a no-no because the marco algaes can go sexual and release pores in your tank. I have not had that happen. I also have a hang-on skimmer which pulls out a lot of nasty stuff.

I've got a hang on skimmer,powerheads,and an intank partition filter box.Been going for almost three years and has been moved twice in the past year.Here is a pic from a couple months ago.Still has the vhos in this pic,I now have vho/halide combe.
