Is there anything more effective than soaking in straight white vinegar for removing calcium build up on tank hardware? I have been soaking my pre-filter / overflow for 24 hours now and still have LOTS of calcium.
Anything better than vinegar for calcium removal?

Muriatic Acid if you're sure it's Calcium carbonate.
Be sure to wear a mask and do it outside, it will work fast. Make sure there is no exposed metal or it will be dissolved.
Thanks. Is this something that you get at a hardware store? Dissolves metal!!! Wow. Sounds like something not to be done in the kitchen sink (stainless steel).

Would just like to add to wear rubber gloves as well. It will burn your skin if you get some on ya.

A product called CLR will also do a great job and not burn anything up.....be sure to rinse and let it sit out to air dry then rinse extra good again. Chemicals are dangerous around fish tanks so be sure all is very clean of any left behind residue before you reuse it.

CLR is what i use - wroks great....but as stated - be very very sure to reallly rinse anything that'll ever go back into the tank.

I don't know if I'd call it weak...A gallon of this stuff drops the pH in my 10,000 gallon pool from 8.4 to below 6.8. It always seemed like pretty rough stuff to me.

Yeah. The stuff that I use is 31.5% HCL
