Are there any star fish compatible with a reef tank? I have a 29 gallon, w/some LPS and mushrooms. It doesn't have a deep sand bed, it's roughly 2" deep. The tank is about 8 months old.

Most species of Asterina will work. Smaller Frommia species are compatible but they are extrordinarily difficult. All others I can think of need more grazing space than what a 29 can provide.

I have a brittle star and he is awesome! Never bothers anyone!
They are also awesome to watch eat!

I have had a sandsifting starfish for some time now in my reef tank. My substrate isn't very deep either and he very cool to watch.

I would not add any starfish other than having Asterina hitch hikers to a 29 biocube.

Sand stars imoe need a developed sand bed... I added new sand to an exsisting tank that was being upgraded and he didn't do as well.... :(
