Are refractometer's worth it?

Yes, they have scales for both. S.G. is affected by temperature, Salinity is not. Therefore, the S.G. will be wrong except for a specific temperature.
Salinity is the important parameter anyway. Specific Gravity does not affect anything.

specific gravity and salinity are coorelated. you raise one...you raise the other. as long as im within my desired range, what does it matter if I read one and not the other?
also, those refractometers that im looking at are ATC.
not trying to argue...just somewhat confused. :confused:

They are related but as I said, temperature affects S.G. but not Salinity. That's why it matters. ATC refractometers will show the correct Salinity. Why would you want to read S.G.?

Stay away from Captive Purity Refractometers they have problems with the hinges on the lids. They break in a month or two and replacements are hard to find. Otherwise, a refractometer is the way to go.

im gettin one on D+1 Bay. Thanks for all of the helpful info!!! Going to use the salinity scale!!! (thanks Bang Guy!) :joy:
