Am i the only one that gets stuck with the dumbest snails in the ocean. They get flipped on their back and die all the time? Is this freakin normal?

Snails need to be manually flipped right side over if they get flipped onto their back or else they will die.

It can also be a sign of heavy metal poisining if it is affecting rather a lot of snails.

I didn't know that.
And yes, I think they are stupid. Mine always get stuck on the intake to my powerheads.

depends on the species weither they can right thenselves up when they fall. turbos are notorious for falling and they dont a panic button to push so they die.
there are other snails that can flip themselves over though.
what kind of snails do you have.?

The most common would be copper, copper pipes, medication, fittings, etc. It is something to rule out. If you are talking one or two snails here and there, that is perhaps "normal" but if it is relatively more frequent, then I would rule copper out.

yeah i got turbos and they fall over all the time...usually in between the rockwork and go unnoticed for a day or two then BAM
dead snails with nasty black goo bubbling from them. OH god the smell :scared: when removed.
i'll never buy a turbo/astrea snail again. the nassarius snails IMO much better<more active>and can right themselves to boot

I have seen my turbos right themselves...can some of the bigger turbo's right themselves?

I have seen many snails right themselves. However, I usually just right them myself because the majority I have seen have not been able to right themselves.

I tossed a Formula 2 cube in the other day. Hermits came running from everywhere. Had a pile of 25ish in a few minutes devouring the cube. Here comes a snail who decides to crawl right into the middle to get some too. I thought he was a goner for sure. Surprisingly, he made it out alive.

what is your specific gravity? if it is too low, the snails will be more likely to fall over.

problem with just nassarius snails is that they rarely will clean algae from your rocks and your glass. (at least mine dont)
