are there sw spiders?

its a funny question i know but i just added 22 pounds of live rock to my tank and the next day..bam..everything is covered in a white webbish looking material...its really weird...i bought the rocks cured but it was over an hour before i got it in the tank...so i figured i would have die off...but not anything like this...and the water is starting to smell also... its a 29 gal that i just cycled. thanks! i will try to post a pic

I have a slight disagreement with DvSKiN and probably about 90% of the SW commum=nity (no offense intended DvSKiN)
If you can smell your water then IMO you have too much in the way of nutrients. I suggest a BIG water change to dilute it and keep your ammonia below 0.5 Above that level and Live Rock critters begin to die off and make things worse.
To answer your question about spiders. YES! They exist and they are bad news...really bad. They do not spin webs though and they are quite rare in the hobby.

does it resemble snot strung from rock to rock? I know that some worms have webs like spiders but I ran through aqua snot about a month ago. still havent a clue what it was but it has deminished down to one little spot now.

I have some type of calcium tubes that send out webs when they "smell" food.If I turn the rock around after a few months I see ALOT of webbing.I still haven't been able to get an id..but I know that my rock is cured.

ok, I guess it's strands of web.But it's not a spaghetti worm..it's the diameter of a cocktail stirrer and it curls around itself before becoming straight..it's attatched to my rock and kinda caramel in color..Weird and until I get a better digi I'm unable to get a good pic

Sounds like a Vermetid Snail to me but it could also be a dozen other critters.

the live rock i added was out of the water for like 2 hours. So im hoping it just was because the rock was cycling....i sucked some of the web looking stuff off and the protein skimmer seems to be helping
