Are these hydroids or something else?

Yes they are hydroids. I have a patch of them in my tank that I can't seem to kill. They haven't done any damage so far. They are actually touching my fox coral without any sign of damage.
I read somewhere that you can kill them by blocking them from light. Not sure if it works, haven't has time to try it. Also heard that you can make a Kalk paste and coat them with it to kill them.

Definitely not yellow polyps. These hydroids have thin stalks and only the little "pom-pom" top contracts when touched. They look kinda like little brown palm trees. They also have a connecting root-like structure.
Do a search on hydroids and you will find a post where I asked for an ID on the same things a few months ago.
Just don't try to pull them off in the display. they will only reattach somewhere else.

I see Hydroids. Scrubbing will help but not eliminate them. Keyhole limpets eat them and I've seen Mexican Turbograzers eat them as well.

Thanks for the reply. At this point I cannot take the rock out as it is the bottom rock in my reef and do not want to re-arrange all the rock yet AGAIN. I will have to try getting a Mexican Turbo or two.

Same problem, bottom rock! My mexican turbos haven't touched them and I have no idea where to get a keyhole limpet. I did read in my Modern Reef Aquarium Encyclopedia that lack of light will kill them, so maybe try a flat piece of LR on top of them?
