ok, here is the difference... when I hear people chewing loudly, I have a physiological reaction, the reaction is beyond my control, it is not logical, it is not something I can rationalize or think about - it makes me get up from my seat and smash my hands against the table.... it's a disorder.
the being irritated by intolerant people is an intellectual CHOICE - it's something I can control, it's something I have thought about, something I can meter and rationalize and explain. I will not automatically & uncontrollably throw a spoon at someone who tells a sexist joke. I WILL do so if someone slurps their cereal infront of me...and there happens to be a spoon handy

One is a disorder, one is a choice.
....better?
Seriously? Were you diagnosed with a disorder? What is it called? I know all kinds of psychological disorders and have never heard of one that singles out peoples eating sounds that would make a person snap. Sure it can be annoying but it something that is controllable IME.

it's OCD... it's not just loud eating... it's snoring and strong smells and a fear of food poisoning and some other stuff too.

Hun, that wouldn't make you snap. OCD is difficult to deal with but isn't out of your control. Sure it is there and is a problem but it can be controlled. It isn't as though you black out and wake up with the person's face in your hand. It is controllable, just harder for you to deal with than it is for others. I am sorry that you suffer from OCD though. I hope that you find ways to cope

Thanx darlin'
Thankfully I'm very much aware of it and it's under control - no rituals or anything like that.
My point was to define the difference between the DISORDER & the DISLIKE - I DISLIKE people who are intolerant, but people who make loud noises when they eat illicit a reaction in my brain. ...one is chemical and one is intellectual.
I wasn't looking 4 excuses or sympathy, I was just making the distinction 4 you, 2answer your question - b/c it is indeed ridiculous that someone would be more INTELLECTUALLY upset that a man would SLURP at her than if he would SMACK her BUTT & tell her 2get back in2 the kitchen.

What do you and your husband look like? As with everyone on forums, you kind of get an idea about what a person looks like based upon your conversations with them.... Yet every time it crosses my mind, a calico cat pops up. You're not a calico, are you?!?!

So, what do you two look like?

Roland was adopted through the Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue organization. We knew we wanted a dog, we knew we wanted a medium sized dog, and we knew we couldn't handle a high energy dog - so, Basset it was!!! Our Bratwurst, as we call him, has quite a story... he was found wandering all by himself in Virginia with a big snake-bite wound in his hind leg.
When the organization took him in & had a vet look at him they found that he'd also contracted Ehrlichiosis (a very not fun, though treatable tick-borne disease) - and get this.... when they neutered him, they found a BB in his ....special place.

WHO SHOOTS A BB GUN AT A BASSET HOUND?????
If it were a farmer protecting his livestock, it would have been at LEAST a 22 and the dog would be in a lot more trouble - A BB??? COME ON PEOPLE!!! That's just ignorant cruelty.
But anyhow, now we've got him and he's ours and we wubs him soooooooooooooooooooooooooo MUCH!!!
