Does anyone know how long to run the protein skimmer? Is it a couple hours a day, all day

Are you asking for this particular model/brand?...I do not have one, but if you are asking in terms of skimmers in general...I run mine 24/7

I was asking just in general.. is it normal for very fine bubbles to come back into the tank when im running my skimmer?

no, those micro bubbles should be trapped by a sponge or bubble trap in your sump. Is the skimmer new? do you have a sponge on the outlet tube?

I just started a thread with the same prob. Although my skimmer is new, and im in the breaking in period, my micro bubbles are heavy. I was told they might go away after the "breaking in" period. If they dont I was told to try to lower the intake. Do you have adjustments on this skimmer? My reading has taught me that skimmer's need a LOT of fine tuning for best results.

they can be harmful. i've heard that the bubbles can get caught in your fishes gills, making it hard for the fish to breathe.

Greg - you are getting microbubbles due to the fact that your return is coming straight from where you skimmer output is going.
IMO your only way of eliminating these will be to build a gate valve to have the skimmer outflow back into the bio-balls...
Otherwise, as I stated in PM, you can buy filter sheets and zip tie them to the outflow.

might be, because if i restrict the flow on my skimmer it will overflow fast

no i dont, but i have poly pads on my overflows and i gotta rotate them out about every 4 days. id assume the socks are about the same.
ive never had to deal with a micro bubble problem because of my sump size. but is there baffles before your return pump?
